AMD Ryzen CPUs

Hey big spenda!

My budget is about half that for an upgrade kit…

I don’t upgrade often, but when I do I try to go big.

Wow, blast from the distant past. Any idea what happen to The Joker? He did my first build as well, and have me a lot of solid advise when I upgraded a couple of years later.

If I remember correctly life gave him a lot of lemons and he disappear.

I’d go for the 3600Mhz ram if possible. The Ryzens work better the faster the memory.

Yeah if I do go for it I might upgrade to the 32GB 3600MHz ram.

No faster than 3600 though. That’s the sweet spot.

Honestly, just save yourself some money and get the 3600

I’m inclined to agree; unless you have lots of productivity work in mind.

Yeah I miss the guy. Chatted to him over the phone about 18 months ago… Haven’t heard from him since. Hope he’s doing okay.

So apparently wootware is currently open for business, and I’m thinking of taking the plunge, what do you guys think of this combination?

I wonder how they managed that?

Nice choice of setup! If you want to save a bit on the CPU the 3700x’s are regarded as better value for money. If you’re only interested in gaming performance the 3600x is quite capable too.

Buying advise in short: we highly recommend avoiding the 3800X and instead grab the 3700X. If you find it necessary, upgrade the box cooler with the money saved. The Ryzen 5 3600 remains king of value bar none, and the 3900X offers more cores for productivity, gaming may not benefit as we observed in our GPU scaling benchmark.

Great info, but he sounds like he’s about to give up on com pew ters, and go find a hut in a jungle.

Any recommendations for fans, or is the stock fan okay? I’m not going to overclock.

The stock fan is very decent - one of the pluses of getting the x series Ryzens

It’s very weird that they are allowed to trade, I wonder how they pulled that off.

Anyway this is what I finally decided on:

  • AMD 100-100000071BOX Ryzen 7 3700X Octa Core 3.6GHz (4.4GHz Boost) Socket AM4 Desktop CPU
  • G.Skill F4-3600C16D-32GVKC Ripjaws V 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4-3600MHz CL16 1.35V Black Desktop Memory
  • ASRock X570 Pro4 AMD X570 Ryzen Socket AM4 ATX Desktop Motherboard
