Was just coming round to mention the same. Sounds like the leak came from retail physical copies of the game which were probably pressed to be ready for the February release date, so Ubi’s note that the leaked footage doesn’t represent the final product seems fair.
“The development team is still working on patches to prepare the experience for launch and any footage shared online does not represent the final quality of the game.”
Possibly an overly cautious leaker wanting to be sure there’s no hint of meta data anywhere to avoid anyone tracking down the retail store or employee where the leaked discs came from?
I’m surprised that with this one can play the game, you’d imagine these days that some form of download would still be necessary and that the whole game wouldn’t fit on a Blu-ray disc. Surely Ubi can block or encrypt the preload data so that one has to wait for release?
That said, the game looks similar to the last AC game, just with a Japanese theme. At least from a superficial glance. I wonder if it will be popular enough to save Ubisoft from it’s downward spiral?
Apparently pre-orders are in line with Valhalla which was the best selling game in the franchise if I’m not mistaken. This looks like a mix between Valhalla and Mirage mechanics in a way. I like that you can now go prone and have a grappling hook for parkour stuff. Will be playing it on Ubi+
The combat is great. Very fluid, responsive and crunchy. And way more brutal than I was expecting.
Parkour is back in a big way. No longer is the protagonist a Spider-Man clone like Odyssey and Valhalla. You have to look for hand and footholds to climb on stuff and the animations are so smooth. It has parkour up and down like Unity and Syndicate did.
The enviroment. What can I say? Ubisoft know how to craft a beautiful, detailed world for players to explore.
I can’t say much about the story because I’ve not really done any missions. I’m just organically exploring the world and taking things in as I find them.
Yes and No. It’s a stealth game though, that’s what Assassin’s Creed should be. However, Yasuke leans to a more aggresive playstyle, but you can’t play with him from the start or whenever you want. So far I’ve only played with him in the intro and then it switched to Naoe. I don’t have a clue when I’ll go back to him or when I’ll be able to switch when I want to.
But yeah stealth is one of the pillars of AC. It’s always been about stealth. Some of the RPGs screwed with that formula but I’m very happy its moving back in the other direction. I generally suck at stealth games as well but AC and Hitman I love.
This is where I disagree. My first AC I played was valhalla, loved the combat so much and then played Origins and then Odyssey, loved them! Played all of them non stealth and had a great time.
I wish they kept the formula where you could choose to play stealth or not.
That explains it then because before those three games there where 9 stealth games in the series so as a long time fine I did not like the direction the games took. Especially Odyssey and Valhalla.
You can still play the game stealth or not, it’s your choice. Naoe is for stealth Yasuke is more action based (what you want). Act 1 of the game you can only play with Naoe but after that you can switch between them (I imagine there will be some sections locked to a specific character).
But even with Naoe you can choose to not go stealth. You’re just going to have to deal with way more enemies with them being alerted in camps and calling for back up all the time.
I played a bit more with Yasuke and he is definitely what you’re looking for. He is not built for stealth at all. Tight ropes actually break if you try to walk on them with him and instead of a leap of faith he does a leap of fail.
