Go find a copy of Gran Turismo (the one that came out in 1998) and play this on your PS4.

Didnā€™t work, now did it? You have to buy a PS1 to play that; This is console tax.

If you are looking at AAA titles then definitely not. Canā€™t get a game for under R1000 on PC these days, same for consoles. So in that aspect they are the same. Gone are the days where PC games are MUCH cheaper than console.
If you are talking about subscriptions then the Microsoft/Xbox subscription is just or even more amazing than Humble.

That Game Pass subscription is just amazing. Itā€™s currently the cheapest way to game AAA titles out there.

it does work on my both my ps2 and ps3 however , get what youā€™re saying, but pc games are also OS dependant ie fallout 3 wont work on windows 10 and you can always say yes but i will just install xp or windows 7 (same scenario as with the consoles)

Just as an example shadow of the tomb raider is R979 on PS4 and R799 on Steam, and it normally drops way faster on pc

Will be able to get it for quite a bit cheaper than 979. This is a not really a big difference between the console and PC games like it used to be.

thats why you must subscribe to gold and every week there are deals with gold with up to 75% off on titles. Wolfenstein the new collossus was discounted almost 50% a few weeks after release with one of the deals with gold weeks during last year but the pc price was still the same

Itā€™s actually way less of an issue on PC that what people think. Windows (and especially Windows 10) has gone a long way to ensure that a properly updated/patched game can/will run in some form of compatibility mode. Hell, Fallout 3 works on Linux with a little bit of tweaking.

The problem with consoles is that unless the manufacturer explicitly allows older generation titles and/or makes them available via digital download you are ultimately bound to having compatible hardware. PC is not immune to this, but itā€™s more resilient. Take things like DOSBox which makes playing really old DOS-based titles on modern hardware/operating systems possible.
