Sadly one of the main mechanics in the game stops me from playing: Slaves. In the same way similar unethical choices in other games direct my gameplay.
I just cannot bring myself to enslave NPCs to work in my property.
Not sure if trolling or not
Not trolling at all. The looks great, except that makes me grimace in disgust, so wont play it.
So no GTA? No Counter Strike? No Dota?
No age of empires (wolololo), no assassins creed 4, no fallout 3…
Also you don’t actually have to enslave anyone. they just infer bonuses (like make you need fewer resources to craft something) but you can ignore that.
The changes the game went through from EA (I got in early) till now were insane. the combat update, the added biomes and the immersive stories and journals scattered around are really cool. I’m literally following the path these 2 guys took with clues from their journal about where they went next, and its completely missable
Are you playing single player or online? I saw some people complaining about lack of servers after the release.
how does this compare to say ark survival evolved?
You apparently slave people instead of dinos
No GTA for sure, the game made my skin crawl. CS had you shooting non combatants for fun or profit? I don’t remember that.
Never played DOTA, you enslave people and kill innocents in it?
Its pretty easy for me, if the idea of the game mechanic makes me uncomfortable then I don’t play it, pretty simple.
Then no Sims either? Playing god and controlling people?
Quite an interesting outlook you have there though.
Is it just preference or is it religious based if I may ask
Mix of both. I have a SP game running since launch (to fiddle with and play around) and my mate and i play on a private server i have setup.
No official servers for me, since ping is an issue
doesn’t have rifles, more melee focused (does have bows but quite nerfed). As flex said, instead of dinos you have NPC Thralls to kill/capture. it also has world bosses, and I THINK (haven’t played ark in a LONG time, not since the DLC was released, and i wished i could refund my EA purchase) more lore/story going on. cities you can find and explore (with non-hostile npc’s you can trade with) etc. does not have mounts, has an active weather system (if you get caught in a sandstorm and you don’t have shelter/appropriate sandstorm gear, you lose HP until you die). has a cool climbing mechanic, so you can climb anywhere, provided you have stamina and other players dont have spikes on their walls.
I understand where @Shrike is coming from. Some games make me uncomfortable, either from a mechanic, story or ethical standpoint. I’ll avoid those games where possible. Like the new Doom - the gratuitous violence and gore just doesn’t do it for me, even though I thought the whole “demonic” aspect would bug me more.
You can’t really compare something like The Sims to games with intentional dark subject matters, like Conan. I personally don’t play horror games as they unsettle me - the same with the horrific bosses from the Souls / Borne games.
The old idiom of “ruk die dam onder die eend uit” comes to mind in your post…
Not religious at all since I am an atheist, just personal. I know that games allow us to escape ourselves but I am quite happy with myself and how I live life, escaping into something that goes against everything I believe in personally becomes more stressful the more I try.
I don’t play games to be stressed
Already lost me there.
