F1 24 - EA Sports F1 Games

Not going to watch now but I know in F1 2019 the controller was faster. What is the verdict now?

Pretty much the same eh, quite surprising. Granted he did say it was a track that favours the controller, but still hard to believe.

Apparently you have more grip when using a controller. Or at least that was the case last year.

That seems absurd. I genuinely thought the game was identicle regardless of what control method you would use, hence why those using a sim type of setup would always have the advantage, or so I thought.

Wowee! The game is great so far! Just did a quick time trial. Played with the settings and the start of the My Team thing. Havenā€™t started the first race yet.

The game looks a lot crisper than the previous one for some reason. And it sounds great!

I have to admit I am not blown away by the game. It is good, but still feels lacking somewhere. Maybe I just need to give it more time

What do you think of the game so far @GregRedd?

Havenā€™t played with it enough to be totally fair. The bit of time I did spend with it on Tuesday night was good, really good. Love the thought theyā€™ve put into the My Team Mode and the changes itā€™ll bring to the career game.

Spent ages fiddling with the customization options. Did do a handful of laps on the 2 new circuits and was very impressed by both of them. At least in terms of how good they are in-game. Driving them needs a little more time to judge, but I can see Hanoi quickly rising to Monaco levels of ā€œI hate this circuitā€.

Other than that, I havenā€™t really spent enough time with it.

Also, a big part of my overall opinion is going to be based on how well the League system works. Because, letā€™s be honest, the real reason I buy the F1 game every year is so that I can drive behind all of you every other week :grinning:

Iā€™m enjoying the game so farā€¦

The depth of My Team is incredible! Iā€™ve done 2 races in a 10 race season just to get a feel for the dynamics, and itā€™s really something to get used to (in a good way). It seems that upgrading the facilities will take quite a few seasons, especially if youā€™re only doing a 10 race season. I really like the ā€œbehind-the-scenesā€ management of a team. Iā€™m actually letting my wife make the corporate decisions while I focus on the racing

On the point of 10 race seasons, I hope you can change the tracks between each season, replicating the days of Nurburgring alternating with Hockenheim as the German GP. If thatā€™s not the case, then Iā€™m going to get bored of the 10 tracks Iā€™ve chosenā€¦

In summary, it looks great, feels great and sounds great!

Jip saw that, and immediately started playing!! The Hammer MRT car was launched in partnership with Shark. The Green and Gold livery was launched and the car showed whatā€™s what at the Australian GP.

Having done a few laps in the McLaren around Zandvoort and completing the Australian GP in My Team, here are some thoughts I have about the game:

The handling model is very different from last yearā€™s game. The cars feel like they understeer more than normal, but that might just be the bad My Team car. I felt like turn in was a lot less sharp than in 2019, and you had to get your braking zones even more spot on to get the correct turn in. Speaking of brakes, those are different too. In 2019 I could easily mash them and get nice and late on the brakes to still make the corner. In 2020, that tactic doesnā€™t really work, as turn in is less sharp, thus I need to slow down more. Iā€™m still fiddling with the settings on both my wheel and the car setup to find the perfect balance.

One thing is for sure, I wonā€™t be able to run the same ultra aggressive setup on the car in My Team. Setups seems to have a much bigger impact on the car than ever before. While I always changed my setup in 2019, in 2020 the impact setup changes makes to the car and itā€™s stability is vast. At Australia I ran a much different setup than ever before to get the car feeling good and feeling confident in it.

As for My Team, I absolutely love it!! There is something special in customizing your own car, naming it and getting your own sponsors, then taking it to the track for the first time. It feels like your car, and itā€™s bloody fantastic!! The Team Management stuff is also incredible. There is enough depth to keep things interesting for many seasons, yet itā€™s familiar enough for veterans of the game to feel right at home. Newbies should also find things easy to understand, and the game makes everything very clear.

I have some mixed feelings towards the AI and difficulty settings though. During my first race, I did manage to see the AI make silly mistakes on track (Latifi dropping the car out of turn 2 was a particular highlight) and the wheel-to-wheel racing is incredible! I had a massive 5 lap battle with Giovinazzi, going back and forth in overtaking him and being overtaken. If that is what the rest of the season is going to be like, thes Iā€™ve found my new favorite game ever!! The AI difficulty is strange though. In 2019 I normally drove the season hopping between 90 and 95 difficulty during races. Last night I had to up the difficulty all the way to 100 to qualify in a realistic position, as I wouldā€™ve made the top 10 at my normal difficulty. I read a lot of comments saying the AI is more difficult this year, but I am yet to see that. Iā€™ll vary my game between 100 and 95 then.

Overall the game is a big improvement from last year. I love it and canā€™t wait to get back into the car.

We donā€™t go to Monaco to race, we go to pose!

Me, Iā€™m continuing to have random issues with my 2020 installationā€¦

Wheel was behaving like it was for me in our 2019 Hungary race on Thursday - no resistance, very light feeling. Near impossible to drive decently, even at my poor standards. Resolved this to some degree by uninstalling all the Logitech GHub stuff and running with default settings in-game.

New problem then, with my throttle stuck on 100% without being pressed, and no setting to invert it that I could find. Took unplugging and reconnecting the wheel and then starting and restarting the game 3 times before it went back to normal.

And all that was only after I managed to resolve this visual issue:

Spa is difficult to master at the best of times, but this is ridiculous! After some Googlating , this one was fixed by changing the anti aliasing setting.

Then, once I could actually move the car forward in the way I wanted and could actually see the circuit I was driving on, a new problem with Time Trials appearedā€¦

Every time (<-- not hyperbole, it happened every single time) that I improved on a rivals time, or improved my PB time, the game would freeze and then crash to desktop. Which is exceptionally irritating when you consider that the aim of the game mode is to improve on your rivalsā€™ times.

I honestly donā€™t know if all these issues are going to be back when I next start the game, or how my removing GHub is going to impact on my other driving games. Either way, Iā€™m ready for some fixes already - patch me up!!

I hope you get your game sorted out. Must say, one nice thing of console gaming is not having to deal with niggly issues like that.

So I had a massively angry crash today. Been a slow day at work so thought Iā€™d do the Monaco Grand Prix in My Team. And after some heavy sweating and plenty of swearing, I managed to do an amazing race and come in 6th. First points for Hammer MRT and best place finish for me. Only, the game decided to crash literally after the race ended and lost ALL the race progress. I was so angry I nearly went onto the internet to complain about it. So I had to redo the race, but this time I drove at like 40 AI level to get the relatively same result, but that meant I completed 78 laps of the Monaco race. Was bloody tiring but at least I got it done and the results show pretty much the same. Urgh.

Oooh, thatā€™s frustrating and irritating. Doubly so for the rest of us, because now youā€™ve had an extra 35+ laps of practice at Monaco.

My frustrations with the game continueā€¦ now the wheel is not being picked up at all by the game :expressionless: And Iā€™m still getting crash log dumps on closing the game. Itā€™s frustrating because it worked so well yesterday, but 20 hours later, it doesnā€™t want to know shit.

Hahaha well doesnā€™t make a difference because itā€™s with an underpowered Mt Team car.

Been struggling getting upgrades done on the car. Iā€™ve had many failures on upgraded parts. You definitely need to invest in the quality assurance parts of your factories to get upgrades done sooner onto the car.
