If I can give you any tips. Have good knowledge on roles, and what they GENERALLY do. Most Mafia type games all have the same principles. This includes games such as Town of Salem. This is a great game that you can play on a browser or steam to get an understanding of how Mafia works.
BUT, and a big BUT
Especially with forum or any media platform hosted by a mod…
ANYTHING gives, and the mod can do what they want. Put in 5 Witches and 10 Cops if they want. The general rule for roles will remain the same though, unless the mod adds a different flavor of the the role. Such as Cops, there are many variants, sane, insane, bad, double cross and and and. At this stage those are not that important, and if one is placed in a game it can be figured out as game progresses. Just have a strong understanding of the more common roles

Best is to learn as we play and don’t worry about asking too many questions.
