It’s fog, the one option you didn’t guess Hopefully some of it will burn off as the sun rises there.
Ok wait, what is the difference between mist and fog?
Launch happening shortly. Still nothing from SpaceX, but their stream normally goes up 5minutes before. Lets see if this goes, and if it does… godspeed SN11! May the landing be smooth!
EDIT: I lied, they have a countdown, it’s 1min before their stream starts.
Technically, nothing. Meteorologically, it’s a visibility thing…
The only difference between mist and fog is visibility. It is called fog when visibility is 1km or less and called mist when visibility remains above 1km. In driving terms it tends to be referred to as fog when visibility is 100m or less.
Fog and mist are both created by water droplets, differing only in their overall locations and density. Fog is a cloud that reaches ground level, even if that “ground” is a hill or mountaintop. Mist forms wherever water droplets are suspended in the air by temperature inversion, volcanic activity, or changes in humidity. Fog is denser than mist and tends to last longer. In terms of visibility, fog reduces it to less than one kilometer (0.6 miles), while mist can reduce visibility to between 1 and 2 kilometers (0.6 - 1.2 miles).
So yeah, I guess you were right at some point in time - maybe it was more mist than fog when you saw it
Right, SpaceX stream is live. T -3mins
Boom!
That was a weird stream lol. Time will tell what actually happened.
But either way, the next launch will take a while I rate, coz SN15 is not even stacked yet.
I just saw some fog and the chat going F. Guess I missed the good part
You didn’t miss anything visually at all… the onboard cameras failed about 30 seconds before it crashed. Still way too foggy for the ground-based cameras to pick up anything. May be some visuals from the SpaceX cameras at or near the pad, but the SpaceX stream was stopped, so guess they’ll want to review the footage themselves first.
That’s fairly disappointing
I’m wondering if it actually reached the ground before exploding?
I could see bits raining down, I think it went boom in the air - just before the feed cut out, you could see 1 engine on the other two I didn’t see fire
Waiting for NSF to pull up footage of their other cameras. But Everyday astronaughts stream I saw stuff flying everywhere. They seem to be suggesting that I blew up in the air.
SpaceX might drop a mad recap video soon.
And seems like I lied about SN15
From his site, a 7000 x 1300px view of the mega shot:
And a video (in German, but it’s the image we want to see) showing the full image:
So cool!
