I have a feeling they just don’t want to front the cost to run their own servers for it…
Also, I just tried out the driving range for the first time (sad I know), and just noticed, it would have been a nice touch if your balls didn’t disappear on the range. You should be able to see all your balls that you’ve hit down the range.
I can’t even see where to play courses that others in the community have created, or do you have to be part of a society to do this?
But isn’t the Society just really a case of a shared club and leaderboard much like we have for our Dirt Rally 2.0 championship? The same course is available on the consoles, conditions and settings get pulled from the Society Manager, you play your round on the PS, Beo plays his on the XB, I play mine in my PC, scores get uploaded, and done. It’s not like there has to be cross-platform play, just cross-platform data sharing.
You would think (or hope) so. Sadly, does not seem to be the case. It seems each platform has their own respective “societies”, which is kinda silly and limits their community and player base.
That’s exactly it. Dirt has its own servers, and you log in with your codemasters account.
I don’t recall signing up for a 2k sports account ever… So they’re just going the “use the existing platform services” route.
Blizzard also did something similar for Diablo III when it released on PS4 and Xbox One. Log in to your Battle.net account in game, and you can import your PS3/Xbox 360 characters from whichever platform, so you could go PS to Xbox or vice versa.
Can it be done? Certainly. But I doubt they’re going to bother.
What kinda settings or limitations are you guys playing on or allowing? (shot preview, ball lines, etc).
I think you can play on any user created course that’s been shared to the public. Go to the normal place to create a new match: Play Now > Local Match on the match setup screen, select the course it shows (your previous played course I think) to Change Course and that should take you to the Select a Course screen. Below the Recommended Courses are a Filter button and a Search button. Use the Filter button if there’s a specific type of course you want to play, or the Search button if you’re looking for specific courses.
Be warned though, there’s a lot of absolute dreck on there. Look for courses that have a lot of players and are rated at least 3+ Others are just not worth the download bandwidth.
Have a look at the TGC Tours website for some reviewed and generally well designed courses.
Oh ya, I read somewhere the custom courses are cross platform…
Their list of excuses is running thin
@oltman could you perhaps share your MEW Hackers Society setups and then the weekly tournament settings with @Beo and @murfle?
Beo and Murfle could you then each create duplicates of the MEW Hackers Society on your respective platforms? If that works for you, and you then set up each weeks tournament with the same parameters as Oltman sets for the PC gang, we could create our own little cross platform championship.
At the end of each week, screen shot the results from all three platforms, slap the scores into a Google Sheet/Excel spreadsheet and do what a multi-million dollar game development company can’t do ourselves
That way too, if anyone else on the consoles wants to join later on, they can.
We did something similar a while ago with F1 using time trial comparisons across different platforms, so it could work with a little coordination between the three Society managers.
I think that could work. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for trying guys. This really sucks I was really hoping this would work like Dirt…
I remember doing the F1 fastest lap sheet, so will gladly do the same for the PGA tour. In order to make it easier I will try and stick with official courses as mich as possible just to cut back on downloads. Only problem is you wont get any winnings… More for me I guess
I will update the rule settings later with a screen shot, but I only changed to rules:
-
Only 9 lutt previews per round. I think this is a nice balance between driving with the racing line on (@DieGrootHammer called it that) and suffering for new guys who have not putted that much
-
At least amateur swing difficulty. That way you get punished if you completely wreck you swing, but it is quite forgiving when your timing is a little off.
All other settings are open, meaning you can change them as you want.
Personally I play on Pro-Am and no putt preview, and I think Hammer as well.
Screenshots of tournament details to follow.
Does this have to be played in real-time or can it work like leaderboards?
Nope you can do the two rounds whenever you want. It all goes onto the leaderboards. I’ve already done my two rounds.
It is a beautiful day for golf!
OK, I have made a new competition that you have 7 days to complete (thats the longest time). Console players can send screenshots of each of their 4 rounds so I can create proper score cards please
Course and event summary:
TPC Summerlin will be hosting the “MEW Make It A Long Weekend Competition”!
Main settings, not really relevant to console.
Difficulty settings, pretty crucial, but I dont have a way to confirm the console settings from the score card. I will work on the honour system. You look like a bunch of nice guys
4 Rounds, each identical apart from moving the time of day and the pin set on.
Round 1 settings
Round 2
Round 3
Round 4
Oh, and PC guys: We can set a day and time and play this together!!!
Urgh. Correction on the “Make It A Long Weekend Competition”… It starts on Monday as you cannot have events overlap, and you cannot delete one that already started…
Maybe better, I won’t be home until Tuesday night, leaving tomorrow morning. Will try making the event tonight if I get a chance between packing, cleaning and conference.
What should we be set at? And “warm-up” as in you can replay your rounds?
