I had no idea either! I remember playing it years ago, maybe over 10 years back?!

For many – those who are perhaps reaching middle age, ahem – Geoff Crammond’s Grand Prix games were the quintessential sim racing games.

They, over four released, pushed the genre forward, thanks to an exacting attention to detail and, for the time, out-and-out simulation driving dynamics. In fact, you could claimmere sub-genre of ‘sim racing’ exists thanks to these titles.

Publisher MicroProse will be re-releasing the quartet of titles for Steam in 2026 – albeit renamed GCR1, GCR2, GCR3, and GCR4.

(They’re all separate listings at the moment, so we’ll have to wait and see if they release individually or all at the same time. I’d imagine a bundle of sorts once all four are released.)

SASOL!!

I played the socks off of Geoff Crammond’s Grand Prix II - I still have the original CD somewhere. This might well be special. It might well be a cash grab also, but I’m cautiously absolutely excited!

Yip, depending on how they are priced and bundled will determine how “cash grabby” it all is. Either way, will be interesting to see how quickly the Steam Workshop modders can overcome the licencing issues and replicate as much of the original details as possible.

It does seem like Mr Crammond is involved directly, which does bode well. He famously took his flippen time on releases to ensure the game was released right, rather than on time. GP2 had the '94 season in a '96 release, for example, and no one cared.

An Unreal 5 graphics engine to run on top of OG Assetto Corsa? Suh weet!

This seems similar to what the TES IV Oblivion Remake did. Same game underneath, shiny Unreal on top.

Interesting vid about a GT7 lap vs IRL

Very interesting comparison. Modern sim rigs, with the right settings and game, do really shine.

* as a complete aside, does the “content creator holding tiny lapel mic in their hand” thing bug anyone else as much as it bugs me? I find it really distracting and rather stupid.

Have not seen this video yet, but a trend is to stick a lapel mic on a weird item like a comb or a spatula and then pretend its a full mic…
