Steam Next Fest Finds & Reviews

“Slots & Daggers” is apparently quite good

Everwind - If Minecraft had all the mods installed and you can build airships and build fancy machines. It improves on just about every Minecraft mechanic. Lets see if the charm is also there. I really like this one!

The Legend of Khiimori - With 2 girls I am always looking for the next best horse riding game. Cliche? Sure, but not if they ASK for it. There is no “peaceful” mod for RDR2, so this game will have to do. Big open world horse riding game set in Mongolian steppes. Plays pretty well, but even my oldest said “I can see why this is just a demo for now”.

Pure Pool Pro - I recall an old pool game when I was a kid (virtual pool?) and played hours of it. This fits the bill perfectly. Easy to pick up, hard to master. Wishlisted!

The Last Caretaker - A survival game where you are the last robot caretaker sailing a ship and gathering resources to maintain yourself, the ship and any facilities you come across. The game is beautiful, and all the mechanics work really well, but the performance needs to be tweaked. Probably the game I spent the most time on in the Next Fest.

Cairn - If PEAK is Mario Kart, then Cairn is a simulator used by F1 teams. A very tough yet super fun climbing game, with a unique and beautiful art style. Loved it. Will be playing it more!

I briefly tried this one. Definitely scratches the TMNT Shredder’s Revenge itch! Went straight to wish list and will be a day one purchase. I had lots of fun with TMNT with my son and got the DLC as well. He will love the Marvel spin on it, especially seeing that you can tag-team two heroes!

Demeo x Dungeons & Dragons: Battlemarked - If you like DnD but are always part of a group of murder hobos then this game will be perfect. It is essentially a table top DnD game constantly in combat mode. Cute, smooth graphics and loads of variety in the tactics, and the full game promises multiple full length campaigns.

Tried 2 games. Both looked fun. Neither had options for inverted controls. Uninstalled.

PS: this is not the place for a debate on inverted controls, but it is probably the easiest setting to include in a game…

PPS: there may well be a setting buried deep in a config file or in the final game, but time in Next Fest is precious.

A combo of Deep Rock Galactic and Sea of Thieves vibe set in a space cowboy spaghetti western. Made it to the Wishlist

Its ok? I think the screen/playable area is too small, Demo only had one very quick level, uninstalled after playing once, a bit meh.

Pretty fun, chinese rogue-like, played co-op, and I think if they get a decent english translator and grammar checker it could do pretty well. UI also needs some help, but a good foundation for a demo.

Needs some work, especially the building system, it works but its a bit finicky, combat is quite basic so far, and because of my potato pc I could not run it on its full graphics, but I believe it would look quite beautiful on ultra. Palworld style game with magic wizards.

absolute brilliant madness, unfortunately I just don’t have the reactions to play the game well, I think this will be one of those games that would be really cool watching a pro play.

I just saw Minos got an updated demo as well, so going to go play that quickly, I played this last year and it was brilliant, hope they improved a lot. EDIT: So they changed quite a bit, and re-balanced the game it seems, it was still a game i needed to use my brain on, but the end level was less stressful and in the end planing out the maze was still as satisfying, can’t wait for full release.
