They were all words that start with “grand”, hence my connections is leaking joke… One thousand is also known as “a grand”, but what followers has to do with anything makes no sense at all. Lastly, since everything starts with grand, why “Grand Finale”?

Yeah, all a little too silly for me as well today.
@murfle’s explanation is good though. They’re all words that follow “Grand”. Grand is one thousand so they are “followers of one thousand” which is how I think the clue should have been worded. Agree that the “Grand Grand Finale” one is dumb.
