Cool. So is that Exchange account option on the left side of the settings gone now?

Nope, that remains as that drives (or is the setup) for my local Mail application.

So I take it that’s a part of MacOS?

Apologies if I was mileading prior, yes it is part of MacOS.

Well, to be fair, you originally asked if there were people that know MacOS

Why would this happen? Every now and then I lose connection and the wifi symbol get replaced with the no connections available.

Initial guesses:

  • Power management settings on the wi-fi adapter - check Properties on the adapter > Power Management > Untick “Allow computer to turn off device to save power”
  • Wi-Fi device driver may need an update
  • Firmware on the router you’re connecting to may need an update

Back on my phone subject. Matters seem to have gotten worse in that the phone will ocassionally “hang up” (not in a phone call, but I mean in usability), then all of a sardine, it catches up a few seconds later and does everything your finger touched on.

Like now, the volume buttons click but the prompt doesn’t display. Then it will display with a delayed input and you’ll see the slider go up or down depending on what you pressed.

I have been having the same issues it’s only been happening in the last week ( Load shedding ) now and then the connection drops I even go into the router to see and the whole Internet connection is down. It happens quite a lot at the moment.

I would just in case make sure that it’s not the NIC so you could always update the drivers from the Device Manager or the Motherboard site.

Otherwise, the good old Ping test is my go-to when the network goes down. I can let you know the commands if you don’t already know them

Thanks, didn’t even think of that. Some of those I do struggle with.

I want to replace a Laptop’s HDD with an SSD. Can anyone suggest a free cloning tool that will be able to clone a 1TB drive to a 500GB SSD? The 1TB has multiple partitions, but only about 100GB used in total.

I used Macrium Reflect for cloning a 500gb HDD to 500gb SSD last month.

Thanks. I was also looking at Macrium, but was not sure if it can shrink as well. Will give it a try tonight and report back.

AOMEI backupper i use it at work consistantly, only thing with that is, if the source hdd is damaged in any way, i.e bad sectors or anything like that, it will fail, unless you get the pro version, which you have to pay for.

Reporting back. Macrium worked great. Resized the partition on the target drive, cloned it, swopped drives and booted right up.

On a side note:
If you had BitLocker enabled on the original drive, Macrium will disable it for the target so no issues there. The issue is when you connect the old drive via USB it need the Bitlocker key to access. So ether disable BitLocker before you start, or backup the BitLocker Key so you can use it later. Luckily for me the key was save in the Microsoft Account.

I always thought doing a fresh install was best onto a SSD.

Arguably a fresh install is better in many cases, as you clone both the good and the bad, however when you have a lot of data and programs that you want to avoid having to backup and reinstall, cloning is the way to go. I also haven’t seen any performance loss from cloning to an ssd, so unless there is some kind of long term side effect, should not be a problem to clone.

Our house router seems to be on the fritz, might have to replace it, what router brands to you guys like in terms of a nice GUI and reliability? needs to have a WAN connection for Fibre.

I for one have always liked D-Link, I still have the one we originally got with our ADSL line way back in the day, but this one telkom gave us this time is a piece o’ sh!t, I looked it up and it isn’t even capable of getting updated firmware.
