Now the F*ers tell me it is not a problem on their network and their hands are tied. To which I replied: get on your client portal for SAINT and log a fault, cannot be that hard!
Thanks to @SIGSTART for that useful intel.

Finally got hold of the owner of the company, told him and he fixed it in 5 minutes. Sheesh man, these people.

If only his staff would put in as much effort to fix a problem as they do to avoid doing anything, it’d probably be a good company!

I hope he brings the pain on the staff that gave you the run around.

Anyone know somewhere local that I can order a replacement DC jack for a Dell laptop?

Do you mean the charger? or do you mean the part ON the laptop that the charger plugs into…

The latter. Well, I need both actually, and also the charger for a lenovo with a square tip, but those are pretty easy to find comparitively.

I found this https://oneshopcentre.com/product/dc-power-charging-jack-for-dell-vostro-3400-3500-3558-3559/
but I’m assuming the picture is wrong, because the one I’ve got in this Vostro is https://oneshopcentre.com/product/dc-power-charging-jack-for-dell-inspiron-15-3559-i3559-p47f/
plus the one with the correct pic is cheaper.

Anyone ever deal with this One Shop Centre?

Edit: The site is full of red flags… Most the links at the bottom for shipping info/faqs/etc lead nowhere

nope, haven’t dealt with them… but the SKU number is the part you wanna be making sure is the right one for yours.

laptop specific parts tend to be tricky and sometimes really unnecessarily expensive when you include courier fees, so its usually not something we make an effort in doing unless the client is happy paying 3/4 the laptop price to replace the component :stuck_out_tongue:

Never heard of One Shop either, and agree it looks a little dodgy -FAQ, Shipping links that don’t work, etc. Probably a front for a drop shipper of some sort.

Found this one that looks a little more legit (no experience with them, so can’t vouch 100%), but a lot more expensive:

https://laptopsolutions.co.za/product/dell-inspiron-15-50005555-5558-dc30100ud00-dc-power-jack/

Is it urgent? What about via Amazon? Generic one here, that even with shipping will cost $15:

https://www.amazon.com/GinTai-Replacement-Inspiron-15-5000-DC30100UD00/dp/B01FLK2MZ4/

Even cheaper if you can get someone in Canada to get it for you and ship it with your next care package from home.

Good idea, I’ll look into that, thanks!

For Lenovo I’ve been recommended PartServe — https://partserve.co.za.

You should ask them about Dell as well. I don’t see Dell listed on their website, but according to their archives they did they did sell Dell laptops last year.

Sooo… I’m running into an issue where I need to be able to remotely power cycle some PCs (mining rigs). I’ve run into some stability problems and the PC becomes completely inaccessible over the network.

Anyone know of good gear available in South Africa that lets you have a remote controlled on/off switch, or perhaps let you remotely trigger a motherboard reset switch?

Maybe something like a wifi plug socket or wifi power switch to power cycle the rig?

Yes, this may indeed do the trick, thanks!

Do you know if the adapter / Wi-Fi socket can be made accessible over the Internet?

I think the sonoff device should be

Yeah, but it doesn’t seem to have a way to wire up earth through the switch. So I’d have to wire the earth directly to the PSU while the live and neutral run through the switch. I can’t visualise how I would do that neatly without getting an electrician to install it in my wall above the regular socket.

Maybe I’ll just roll the dice on the Wi-Fi adapter/socket and hope for the best.

Raspi controlling a cheap relay should also work, as a plan B.

Yeah, rolling my own is a plan B, but I need and am willing to pay for something rock solid. When everything else has fallen over, I need this thing to help me bring it back up.

I am going to see if I can find and buy it this week. I can take pictures if you want.

Seems @Hiro and I are both experiencing this issue and not sure how to resolve this or why this is happening. It is only affecting the Xbox and we’re both on the same ISP (Afrihost).

Does anyone have any clue why this has suddenly started happening?
