Very nice move by F1 to leave the podium up until confirmation of Sainz P3 so that he could actually get to go up there.

After all the post-race shenanigans, hereā€™s the final results classifications.

Nice little late season points haul for the Alfas. And after that late Safety Car, George Russell ended just 1.5s outside of scoring his maiden F1 point. :slightly_frowning_face:

Had to catch the highlights, but yes, this. What a kak year to be a Ferrari fan.
But ag, at least there was action. Also good to see Hamilton in the battles a bit. Few drivers gave him a run for his money :stuck_out_tongue:

That is pretty neat, was thinking, would probably suck if he gets his first podium and canā€™t even celebrate.

I suppose that while this technically is a podium for McLaren, it doesnā€™t really feel like one. Carlos didnā€™t finish third on the road after all. Either way, itā€™s a great reward for the team after a fantastic turnaround season. And it was a mega drive from Sainz to be in that position to begin with.

Absolutely deserves the reward for that mega drive through the field. And it puts McLaren in a confirmed P4 for the Constructors Championship this year. I donā€™t think even the most diehard Macca fan would have imagined that they would more than double their points tally from 2018 at the beginning of this year.

What a fantastic race. This was easily my favourite race of the season, and perhaps one of the best races in a few years. All the chaos and drama, and 2 midfield teams on the podium is astonishing!

I am so happy for Sainz for finally bringing home a podium for McLaren. No other team has deserved it more than the Maccas. His race was such a metaphor for the season the McLaren has had this year; they came from last to getting their first podium.

Verstappen drove a perfect race. Did not put a foot wrong, made the correct moves and drove that car like he stole it. Some nice battles with Lewis made for some interesting racing.

But let me do that one thing I did that one time and go through a ABCDEF1 rating for all the drivers:

Verstappen - A: brilliant drive, perfectly executed moves, and great pace
Gasly - A: What a way to get youā€™re first podium. He is a beast in a Torro Rosso car
Sainz - A+: My driver of the day. So well deserved
RƤikkƶnen - A: Best Alfa result since the 50ā€™s, and the ice man did great to get the car up that high
Giovinazzi - A: Again, following his team mate and dragging that car much higher up the order than it should be
Ricciardo - C: Giving him a C for that ugly dive on Kevin that nearly ruined his race. How he got it in P7 after that I would never know though
Hamilton - C: He tried his best despite the Merc not being the fastest car on the track. Bad strategy calls for him from the team, and that last lunge to take out Albon was a bit too ambitious.
Norris - C: Think he did as well as he could with a different strategy, and a good drive in getting up into the points. But his team mate absolutely schooled him
Perez - B: Bloody good drive to once again get that pink car into the points.
Kvyat - C: Bit of a nothing race for him, and was way too quiet after the puntings of the previous races
Magnussen - B: Giving him a B for recovering well from getting punted by Danny Ric.
Russel - B: Great result for a car that should not be this close to the points
Grojean - D: After a good qualifying, just was nowhere in the race, and complained like crazy about nothing.
Albon - C: While he did get the short end of the fight with Hamilton, he left the door way too open. Other than that had an okay race, but nothing special
Hulkenburg - D: Bad race, just looked like he didnā€™t want to be there anymore.
Kubica - F: What a bad race yet again. Even with a safety car still ended up a lap behind in 2 laps, how the hell is that even possible, how is he so slow?
Vettel - F: Didnā€™t have the pace, and caused the accident with Leclerc. He really needs to get his head checked
Leclerc - D: While that crash ruined his score, he did well to recover from his grid penalty
Stroll - D: I didnā€™t even know he was drivingā€¦
Bottas - C: Another slow Bottas race that thankfully ended early to put his slow pace out of itā€™s misery.

Yoh. If it turns out Ferrari were breaking the rules in some fashion, this season will turn into the ultimate humiliation.

It will be interesting to see, it might mean them losing all their points

That would depend on the scale of the infringement, I think.

Im just curious as to the why of it - cos they did already make them change

Thatā€™s still speculation, afaik. The FIA made a few rule clarifications, the intent being to plug some loopholes. Whether or not Ferrari or any other team were actually exploiting said loopholes, we donā€™t know for sure. Ferrariā€™s lack of pace in Austin got the rumours going, but they were mega fast on the straights in Brazil again.
