OK, I also subbed, and have to admit the replay is at least on par with the DStv Now stream.

Will see all the live timing data during the first race, while I watch the documentaries in the mean while

What’s with the random 9 laps for Danny Ric?

Haha I didn’t even notice that. That’s weird.

Not sure, I missed that part - he might have started going out early ?

Nice to see Williams not last for a change. Even though the lap times probably don’t mean anything.

Hey they went out first, they didnt break down. The only one who had an issue was Kvyat - electrical.

Not sure why Leclerc spent most of the session in the pit tho

A big improvement over last year’s start for sure.

I want to see what Russell can do with a more competitive car

Makes an interesting change from the traditional school sports team thing they do on the Melbourne start line.

I wonder who crossed the line first though

Testing Day 1 Times and Lap Counts:

Giovinazzi the only one well off the pace today. The Mercs (and especially Hamilton) top of the class again, with Perez getting last year’s Mercedes (cleverly disguised as a 2020 Racing Point) right into the mix in P3.

Really impressed by the solid lap counts across the board today - says a lot for the reliability of the engines that all of the cars put in over 100+ laps, with some managing almost 3 full length Spanish GPs in a single day.

Also very happy to see the Williams be the first out on circuit today. Must have been a big morale boost for the team after their horrible start to Testing last year.

And the cars are faster again this year by a fair margin. Here’s Day 1’s times from last year for comparison:

Today’s top time was over a second faster than Vettel’s Day 1 fastest a year ago. In fact everyone up to Ocon in P8 went faster today than Vettel did. And all the way down to Magnussen in P14 at just 0.3s slower showed solid times.

In 2019, between the first day of testing and the last day, Vettel improved by almost 2 seconds finishing the last day of testing in 2019 with a 1:16.221. Bottas posted a 1:15.406 pole position time for last year’s Spanish GP. I think both of those times are going to be beaten by the time the test sessions finish next week.

Bit of a foregone conclusion already with AlphaTauri at over 40% of the vote while everyone else is in single figures, but still…
