From last year:
That’s the classic naming convention for Mercedes racing cars. The W stands for Wagen, meaning car in German. The number is the project number - W11 - meaning the 11th Mercedes car born in Brackley!

Last I heard was they were closing on around $45-$50-million for a four year contract. That was about two weeks ago.
