The Formula 1 Thread ๐ŸŽ

I like the half points idea, but dont know why they had to go through the whole procession to award them. The guys did 3 practice sessions, spent thousands of dollars to get there and 10 guys managed to qualify in points positions. Small reward for some of their efforts is totally fine by me.

Coz those are the rules? :stuck_out_tongue:
We can argue about how dumb some regulations are but they have to at least be consistent when applying themโ€ฆ So to have no doubt as to whether or not half points would be awarded or not, they did the procession so its above board, official, whatever you wanna call it.

But yea, disappointing afternoon of staring at drivers out of their cars, but completely understand and respect the decision. Iโ€™m sure there was quite a bit of pressure from various sides saying race/donโ€™t race.

I was actually a little surprised that only two laps were required for the race to be eligible for points - I thought it would have to be at least half way or something.

Urgh what a waste and anti-climatic session that was. I was totally the right call to not have the race as historically Spa does not have a great reputation when it comes to safe races in the dry, let alone the wet. And it was way too dangerous for them to go out.

But the FIA made such a stupid call to hand out half points and parade the โ€œpodiumโ€ in front of the crowd and hand them trophies for a race that never happened. That was such a farce. The race couldnโ€™t be run, so cancel and move on to the next one. Why keep up the charade? I bet some contracts wouldโ€™ve been cancelled and FOM wouldโ€™ve lost money if they didnโ€™t pretend an actual result was reached.

I heard someone say (think it was Hamilton) that they ran the minimum distance so they did not have to refund tickets. That would be terrible if that is trueโ€ฆ

No he was more referring to sponsors and contracts that would not be met should a race not be declared. For example the sponsors and advertisers for the podium, which was prominently shown for some stupid reason. The refunds to tickets to the race are not based on whether or not a race was done. The promoter of the event have all the say on whether they will do refunds. Someone on Reddit posted the Tโ€™s and Cโ€™s for the tickets, and they clearly state: โ€œIn the event of a case of force majeure, SPA GP will not be obliged to compensate the buyer and reserves the right to refund tickets.โ€

Overall the decision was stupid and definitely not motivated for the good of the sport. The FIA should be ashamed how they handled this weekendโ€™s event.

they should have just moved the race to one of the TBC slots and everyone would be more than happy. Everyone can agree was not safe to race. but yes there contracts that need the race to happen no matter what. Same reason we had races last year.

This is it. This will be my last season in Formula 1. This is a decission I did during last winter. It was not an easy decission but after this season it is time for new things. Even though the season is still on, I want to thank my family, all my teams, everyone involved in my racing career and especially all of you great fans that have been rooting for me all this time. Formula 1 might come to an end for me but there is a lot more in life that I want to experience and enjoy. See you around after all of this! Sincerely Kimi

For those of you that use the F1 TV app on PC, you should have a look at Race Control. Itโ€™s an app that acts as frontend to your streams, so you get a list of each stream available, and can open it in VLC for you to position where you want it.

The real crafty bit, though, is that using the internal player, you can open all your streams, arrange them in a 3x3 pattern using hotkeys, and then sync all the streams with a single click. You can also save the layout once youโ€™re happy with it. Excellent for the 10 minutes of testing Iโ€™ve done.

This was a great analysis of what was to be the race winning, and second place laps of qualifying:
