Race Week

And the weather is looking like it may be another wet one. Is it my imagination, or has there been a lot of moisture around this season? Certainly more rain affected events this season than we usually have. Wonder if I can find some wet race stats…?

Rain all the way through the weekend. Sunday around race time looks like a 65% chance for rain at the moment. Still a while away but want to compare to see how the forecast changes closer to the end of the week.

The wet is fun, if only F1 cars could race in it, that would be something!

Yeah. Slap some extra large mud flaps on the cars and we’re winning!

Seriously though, if you have F1TV access, watch a driver camera or two from the mid to rear of the field when it rains - it’s ridiculous just how little vision the drivers have in wet conditions. I struggle to drive with the windscreen wipers on full tilt going 80 on the highway with a car 100m ahead of me throwing up that fine mist spray. How they manage to do it at three times those speeds and more, separated by 5m, is beyond me.

It’s definitely a scary situation. You always hear drivers saying their most dangerous time in an F1 is not catching a 200km/h slide on a street circuit, but driving on any track wet enough for extreme tires.
Unfortunately I think something will only be done after a major incident, always seems to be the case with these things.

Relevant video by Jimble, but ya, the visibility is even worse than depicted here.

Funny thing is that the race directors have been criticised this year for being too cautious when it comes to wet track conditions.

Absolutely certain that none of the armchair drivers who are doing that criticizing have ever driven an F1 car in even mildly moist conditions, never mind torrential downpours. And no, driving in F1 2022 in VR is not the same.

Comes bloddy close though!
/Sarcasm, if it wasn’t obvious.

The tricky thing is that if you look at the video of Sainz’s (Sainz’? @GregRedd, this Afrikaner needs your grammar help!) spin at Suzuka that led to the tractor invading the track and the FIA trying to murder Gasly, from the side it looks like a bit of a drizzle. I had a much worse storm in my front yard just now. So I think it’s incredibly difficult for everyone but the actual F1 drivers to judge the suitability of the track for racing. But, as wiley old Senna showed in Monaca (IIRC), trusting the the drivers to make that call can be used strategically…

New official F1 endorsed F1 Arcade in London. (We probably can’t afford it  )

Who do we have to sacrifice to get Ferrari a championship next year?

You must have misspoken, you meant a Mclaren championship for Lando?

It’s this darn autocorrect I tell you

That ship has sailed now that Merc is back in form. This was their year but alas…(although I do think it was always going to be tight with how Red Bull has just aced things)

If they can just not make so many mistakes… maybe…

Dude for that they need a whole new strategy team…

At this point they need to not HAVE a strategy team. I reckon no strat is better than a ferrari strat in 2022

Or fire the strategists and just keep asking Charl & Carlos “what do you think about the softs?”, “when do you want to box, is now a good time?”
