Good morning MEW.
Sharing is caring.
Safely back in GP, arrived yesterday evening. The drive up was also a bit rough with all the rain, but we are home! Went to a Royal Icing Cookie Decorating Class this morning, we made braai&rugby themed cookies!
The wife is sick, friends are moving house so we have their kids for the weekend. I am finished.

Evening.
Depression sucks.
It does! Luckily medication can help. I’m on meds for a exactly that reason.
I’ve been trying to avoid meds myself but my psych PMB has dried up for the year so trying to make my own management mechanisms.
Speaking of medications - I have a cortisone inhaler (got in Bloemfontein with the bad lung thing a while back) that I’ve been using once a day or as needed during my recovery. So about 1.5 weeks ago it stopped working. I didn’t notice at first, but even with the twist and the click, there’s just nothing coming out. But it should still have over 50 charges left out of 120. Nothing is coming out, I think the mechanism inside is broken somehow.
Do you think it’s possible to take it back to Dischem and get them to replace it? Or will they charge me for a new one? I mean, I know it’s scheduled medication but it’s a product like any other that has broken when it isn’t supposed to break, and I can’t get my full use out of it? It’s even worse because it’s medicine that’s not being properly dispensed.
Anyone ever dealt with this situation before?
I haven’t had a specific experience like that but I don’t see them replacing it. It’s a consumable like any other, while it may have mechanical parts, the fact is it has been used and will likely fall under “wear and tear” usages.
Just some 2c worth from me.
Is the inhaler integrated with the actual meds canister? I know on the older types, the actual inhaler is a seperate mcjigger, so should be able to be replaced as the canister is the schedule mcgoofter.
Must say, I’ve have my prescription meds messed up thrice in the past 6 months, where I was given too little drugs. But I can’t exactly take it back, saying “you didn’t give me all me drugs, promise” on scheduled meds. Nor can I check it in store, as the pharmacy seals it and sends me to the till… very frustrating. Can AI solve this problem already?!
After you pay, open the meds at the till (don’t move away) and count it. That way you can prove it was underdispensed while right there. If they’ve done it multiple times, I’d make this standard protocol. I’ve never been underdispensed.
No, there is no cartridge. The meds are sealed into the base of the inhaler. It’s a single unit.
Oh hai people of the palace is it home time yet
I’ve never come across this. I’ve been using a similar twist and click inhaler and never had a problem, but if the mechanism is faulty, I would definitely take it back. Worst they can say is no, but I wouldn’t take that for an answer.
8th Working day, I am the contracts department.
So on the advice of a stranger on the internet, I filed a faulty product report with the manufacturer, AstraZeneca South Africa, via their website. It was fast and easy. They got back to me four hours later, asking me to designate a Dischem to return the turbuhaler to, and they would arrange for a replacement unit, and take the defective one back and check it out to see why it stopped dispensing.
So I let them know which Dischem, and hopefully they will get back to me tomorrow morning with the go ahead to return it for a replacement unit. Yay!
Excellent, great to hear ![]()
I’ll be sure to keep this in mind if mine ever fails.
Exam Season is the worst season!

Brilliant!
I’ll say! I still get PTSD when a Jakaranda blommetjie falls on me.
