I remember looking way back when they just started, looked cool and then it just never stopped so many are being released its insane.
52268 stored VN on just one site. After playing one or two I have had my fill. Anyone else playing it nonstop and what is the appeal?
I’ve never played one myself, but as long as people are buying and enjoying them I don’t see the harm.
If you had to do a visual novel what theme would you like to read?
Is visual novel like the telltale games? Or is there something more specific than that?
Have you heard of Doki Doki Literature club? Its atm all over the place.
But normally a VN consist predominantly of narration and have very few interactive elements.
So a background with a character in front of it with narrative at the bottom and often 3 choices.
So basically a book with pictures where you have a few choices and that determines the end.
I don’t think I’ve ‘played’ one. The first time I heard the term though was when Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs came out.
bought quite a few japanese titles that looked cool but turned out to be visual novels, very dragging tbh
I know you said Doki Doki, but I never saw another reference to it until now.
Indeed that is why I mention it since its been all over.
I know visual novels and interactive fiction are not exactly the same, but if you want to make your own interactive fiction you should totally look at Twine! http://twinery.org
I’ve always considered it the “Choose your own adventure” of games.
I’ve played a few in my time. Some Japanese. Some Yoyoyo!panese (iykwim ). But in general, not my cup of tea anymore.
