What Are You Good At?

General Life;

Just as a whole, what is there that you excel in?

At Work:
Your work experience/job; what you do for a living. Is it something you enjoy doing?
Is it something that was of a choice to you (e.g I wanted to be a doctor, and I’m good at diagnosing symptoms and helping patients get the correct meds).

I’m good at working on PCs, trying to locate faults and resolving them.
I’m good at trying to fix phones (software)… Some can take hours to sort out, but for the most part, I get it sorted.

Something I feel I’m particularly good at is entertaining people. Always trying to put others in a good mood; get people laughing, that’s something I enjoy doing.

I’m quite good at building very complex, responsive user interfaces for web-based systems. I can see a layout on paper, online or on screen and immediately visualize the CSS and (if necessary) JavaScript to make it work without reverting to “bootstrapping” frameworks or libraries. I know most CSS syntax and properties by heart and know lots of pitfalls and hacks to get complex layouts to work. I’m starting to become just as comfortable in ReactNative these days.

Then I’m quite good at implementing complex algorithms in server-side applications in the most efficient, maintainable manner possible. I can architect multi-tier, integrated solutions quickly on a whiteboard and give a breakdown of the technologies to use for each use-case.

Finally, I’m quite good at selling tech solutions to business problems. I can explain very technical implementations in the necessary business terms to make the audience understand and appreciate the offering presented to them, to the point where they’re excited to throw money at the project.

Problem with all this? Most days I don’t enjoy any of it. It’s incredibly tiring and taxing on my mental and social energy, to the point where I’m grumpy at home and anti-social otherwise.

In general life I am excellent at doing nothing and keeping myself entertained. I cannot remember the last time I was bored. I can quickly find a new topic that interest me that I can get lost in. That and smoking weed. I have gotten really good at doing that. And I am not too shabby on the guitar. Oh and i can do thast thing with the cherry stem. I am pretty proud of that.

Work is work. I don’t know if I’m good at it, but so far I haven’t made any fuck ups so that seems good.

I am one of those people that is just contempt. Most of the time its a gift and more than most of the time its a curse. Bring on whatever and I’ll be ok with it. Unless a taxi is blocking me. Then I lose my shit.

yunna this has been tough to answer hey?

Id like to think Im decent at my job which is video production. I thank video game cutscenes and replay editors for that. Most of my work is on the fly run and gun type stuff with little planning so I have to be able visualise a shot I want and camera positioning pretty quick etc. I also have developed a good sense of timing when it comes to cutting shots in the edit and selecting the right music tracks to suit the images.

Im a decent swimmer(1km in 15:03 minutes is my record) and above average surfer. Im in the water everyday so it’s only natural.

Im also totally epic at single player games

Thinking outside the box and on my feet, Troubleshooting /Diagnostics, I learn fast in the right circumstances, I do Deployments, I feel like I’m good at it I worked my way up from intern in support to deployments in 4 years and have other support members still coming to me daily for advise.

I’m good at pushing myself to the brink of insanity when I want to learn something, I will pursue it relentlessly, the only issue is I have to actually give a shit about what it is I want to learn or I get bored and struggle to absorb anything.

Also Good at philosophical meanderings and reading / connecting with people.

Oh and being a stickler for honesty and transparency.

@Aeightsh what makes your curious about this ?

i would say from my perspective im good at analyzing and reading situations, im also good at fixing things, not just swapping out stuff like most technicians but actually fixing things as in desoldering and replacing capacitors, resistors, transformers etc and fitting new ones on motherboards, gpu’s, monitors psu’s etc.

Im also a good at designing, i havent studied graphic design but i’ve taught myself over the years and i’ve ended up designing a few retail packaging for products.

some of the retail packaging i designed over the years

im passionate about design be it digital or physical and im hopefully working towards taking that further soon

Apparently I am really good at staying quiet, so much that people in my high school (teachers and students) forget what I sound like, what my name is, and if I am even in the class, I have also been mistaken for sleeping in the car, when all I was doing was… nothing, and it’s not like I try to stay quiet, it’s just my normal way of being.

I also seem to have an iron bladder, longest I have gone without “going” was 15 hours, even with drinks in-between.

And that’s about it I think, not really good with anything, just those random things.

I’ve come to realise that I’m better at racing games than shooters - provided people don’t cheat…

For the past week or so, I’ve looked at this thread and tried to comment. It’s rather difficult and caused some serious introspective within me trying to come up with some idea of what I am good at.

I’d like to think I’m good at my job, but sometimes the workload can get the better of me. It’s difficult to balance everything and try to get time for all the new responsibilities I’ve been given. My job had always been around generating reports and managing information flow within a business, which I feel I was extremely good at. As you climb the corporate ladder, you get less and less actual hards-dirty work done, and much more management and policy and bureaucratic and strategic work to be done. It can become really difficult to put your cock on the block for decision and live with the consequences thereof. I do feel like I am good at doing this, as I’ve managed to climb this ladder relatively fast for someone in a huge company.

I do think I’m really good with stats and math though. I’ve always loved numbers and math, and I just fell in love with statistics. Finding the story data is telling and translating that into information has always fascinated me. So yeah I look at stats quite often just to see what they could possibly mean

In my personal life, I would say I’m good at remembering song lyrics. I love music and can learn the words to songs relativly easy and quickly. Useless trait, except if you go onto shows like Noot-vir-Noot (which I actually did btw).
