Activision Returns to Steam

Activision published games have been on and off Steam in bits and pieces for a while. But officially, Activision now has an official publisher page on Steam and has begun the process of linking its titles to their central hub.

Earlier this year Activision announced that it would be making a return to Steam after years of absence forcing PC players to use the publisher’s own bespoke launcher. Ahead of Activison’s full return to the platform, the publisher now has an official Steam page.

The page is at Steam Publisher: Activision where you can follow the publisher and view all of the games released by them.

The most recent game currently published by Activision on Steam is the 2019 Spyro Reignited Trilogy. But the publisher’s return to Steam has been set up to coincide with the move away from the Battle.net dependence in time for the release of the new Call of Duty.

We do not yet know exactly when Activision will begin publishing games back on the platform, but it has been confirmed that the upcoming Modern Warfare II will be coming to Steam (which releases on the 28th of October 2022).

The page is still a little sparse with no lists and a one line about page (“Founded in 1979, Activision continues to disrupt the world of entertainment with its extensive roster of epic blockbuster games”), but hopefully Activision will start populating things with all the Battle.net games.

I’m still amazed at the prices that organisations like Activision have on their older games on Steam.

2012, 2014, 2017 titles are still at R799? How? Why?

Sure they’re on sale at the moment, but when they aren’t?

The new one is only R1 379 for the standard edition, and R1 850 for a fancied-up Vault Edition.

Ya Activision has always kept the price of their games high, the discounts do get deeper over time but it’s crazy that they charge near full price on the COD titles long after the multiplayer portion of the game is long dead.
