Are You Spending Less on Video Games?

I’m the furthest thing imaginable from a young American, but this is true for me as well - my gaming spending has been slowing significantly over the past 2 years or so.

In my case, Game Pass is by far the biggest difference. That and the generally more expensive games that are being released these days coupled with our poor currency. I just can’t justify spending R1000+ on a game these days. Doubly so because I know it’ll likely just languish in the backlog after I’ve spent just a couple of hours with it because there’s not enough time to play games any more. And there’s always another new shiny that’s ready to take its place.

What’s your game spending like at the moment?

Same, just get gamepass and I am pretty much satisfied, I will say though, that if I had a better PC there would have definitely been some expensive game purchases, like Space Marine 2, and Cyberpunk.

In the end we are so spoiled for choice when it comes to games these days and there are also so many free to play games, and even AAA games that have free to play weekends, there is not much of an incentive to buy games anymore, that and EPIC has thrown a massive spanner in the works, “why buy a game these days when I can just wait for EPIC to give it to me for free?” and they have had some heavy hitters on there.

You could also make the argument that, cheaper indie games have a lot more value for what you get than some R1600 AAA game that is riddled with bugs, micro transactions, and just off putting practices.

Gamepass has saved me a ton too.

for the past 3 years ive been spending a helluva lot less on buying new games, ive been giving my older console more attention, only buying current gen titles on special.

i held back waiting for the current gen consoles to drop in price, that didnt happen it ended up getting price hikes instead and i took a gamble to rather buy a fairly new used series s at a good price instead.

New titles are double then what they used to be and there is no way im forking out 1300 every time a new game drops, if im desperate gamepass and when its heavily discounted then ill purchase the ones i desperately want

Only because I have less. If I had more disposable income I would be buying more for sure.

My instinctive response was to say, “Yes, I’m spending less”, but now that I think about it, I’m not sure.

I’m playing less, but have also been more impulsive on what I want to play - and have the ability to spend more on it than an 18-24 year old. So if there’s something I want to play, it’s more a matter of time than money.

There was another thread on MEW about Steam account value, and I was a bit shocked at how much mine was worth! All these little specials add up!
