Ol’ Zuck is basically saying that they are going to make Facebook Messenger and Instagram Messenger work through the same infrastructure as WhatsApp. It’ll all be the same platform, just different interfaces.
Everything will be end-to-end encrypted. He didn’t mention Signal Protocol, but it was a NYT article, and I’d imagine they’d use what they implemented for WhatsApp.
Not sure if that means that Instagram users will be able to message WhatsApp users, and vice versa?
Rather than message privacy, the big concern I’d have is that somehow my phone number would be exposed to people on Facebook and Instagram. And I’m sure there are many more people who have private Instagram accounts that they don’t want connected to some Grande Unifiede Facebooke account.
