Beating Off 2.0

We do not discuss the middle of nowhere

Moved here a few years back already, nearer family to help the parental unit after cancer and her not working 24/7. The emigration was supposed to happen a year or so back already so been here way way longer than anticipated

Oh right you did tell me this already.

Out of interest, what type of visa did you apply for for Scotland? And why Scotland specifically? I vaguely remember you mentioning moving to Wales at some point in timeā€¦ Did you change your mind?

If all goes according to plan, I could find myself in Ireland (not Northern) in the next year or so with the branch we just opened. Need to finish off some work here first before I start scouting for new work and talent that side of the world.

What kind of business is it in Ireland?

Iā€™m having to look into finding a job somewhere other than South Africa for a whileā€¦

Weā€™re a software company, specialising in development and consultation. Getting into the audit / expert witness in legal matters side of the business as well the past year. Our current niche is insurtech, providing development services to the insurance industry.

Why do you need to find a job outside ZA?

Not sure how much longer Iā€™ll have a position where Iā€™m volunteering, and to be honest, its not really worth my time/talents anymore as the focus of the organisation has changed. Since my visa only allows me to volunteer here, and I canā€™t change my status within the country, I have to find elsewhere (whether thatā€™s in the coming months, or by the time this visa expires at the end of 2021, who knowsā€¦) to work.

Iā€™m half thinking go overseas for a year to work, get my savings back up to a reasonable amount, then get a proper work visa for South Africaā€¦

Iā€™m a fully qualified network analyst, btw

Arenā€™t you technically overseas?

And seriously, do you only volunteer? Are you remunerated in any way though? And where are you thinking of working again? And why come back to ZA and not become nomadic and continue experiencing new countries for years at a time?

We have a recruitment department and I know we recently had a request for a networking related position. So Iā€™ll keep my ear on the groundā€¦
