My mom got evicted and she ended up on the street, all her belongings with her. The struggle is now to keep her out of a homeless shelter. I remotely organised for a pickup and storage of most of her things.
Trying to find her a place to stay in Durban with her being an old lady is next to impossible. There are waiting lists up to 8 years for a place that is affordable on a SASSA pension.
Trust me on this, make sure your parents are taken care of. It is a very very grim world out there for the aged. I have not been able to sleep since it happened and have been working since 1am. You do not want this stress.

That’s terrible, shocking news @Shrike, so sorry this is happening to her and your family. Wish I was able to do more than just offer moral support and strength. I truly hope you are able to get things sorted out for her.

One of the reasons my mother-in-law stays with us. When her husband passed away we immediately offered to let her move in with us, as she wouldn’t have made it on her own. Her parents had the same lot, staying with their children (they made turns staying at their 6 children’s houses) in their elder years until they passed away.
