Its a mix of Yesyesyes and nonono to try and not ruin the surprise
To elaborate, there are/were popular subreddits called yesyesyesno and nononoyes (and like a dozen variations based on that).
As you can imagine the name of the subreddit made the gifs a bit predictable.
r/maybemaybemaybe is a subreddit that undoes that pridicatability so you won’t have any idea of which direction the gif is going to go.
As a fan of misdirection humor, I approve of this sub.
