Cloud9 wins ELEAGUE Grand Final

While you may or may not be interested in esports, this story will intrigue you.

For many years, North American teams have been seen as sub-par compared to esports teams from Europe and Asia, especially in CS:GO. Cloud9 has always been respected, but they’ve never been seen as on par with the rest of the world. There were many that said they were not on a championship level. Plus, they’ve never won a major title ever.

And then ELEAGUE Boston 2018 happened. Up against the best teams the world has to offer, they were the underdogs of the competition.

After two early losses in the group stages, nobody pegged then to progress too far. But they made it to the next rounds. And then they made it to the knockout stages, and then to the semi-final.

In the semis, they were up against SK Gaming, from South Korea, a team considered by many to be the best the world has ever seen. It was a true David vs. Goliath match. And they won, and rather emphatically as well. So they ended up in the grand final against FaZe. Now FaZe is the best team in Europe, no doubt about it. FaZe has won every major title in the world of CS:GO except for ELEAUGE. This was their first final as well, and they went into the match as firm favourites.

The final ended up being one of the closest contested finals ever in competitive CS:GO, with both sides narrowly winning and losing one round each. The final round came and it was neck-and-neck. The match had to go into overtime as they ended equally. And after the first overtime, still, the scores were drawn. In the second overtime, Cloud9 managed to clinch one final win, and they were crowned the ELEAGUE champions! It is a true underdog tale and one that is very inspiring to read up on.
