Coffee Lovers Thread

Fellow coffee lovers, I need your help. After reporting in January how much we love our Bean to Cup machine, she is on her last legs. I’ll check again how many cups she made over the last 6 and a half years, but it has to be close to 17 000.

It seems our machine has been discontinued: https://www.takealot.com/delonghi-bean-to-cup-coffee-machine-ecam23-210-w/PLID34146403
I might still be able to find one at the local House and Home, where I saw one earlier in the year, but we now have the opportunity to shop around again, so I welcome any suggestions. Online ordering is a must, since it’s a bit tricky to get things on the shelf in Witbank.

  • Our budget is around R8k, but we might consider going up to R10k if the machine really warrants it.
  • We like bean to cup, ground is normally too messy for us, and we dislike the Nespresso pod-type systems.
  • We primarily drink Americano, so the only real requirement is a good Espresso. Bonus points if the machine can do the water as well, but my wife trained me to put water in the cup myself, so I am officially certified to do that bit.

So, anyone know of a good machine I can look at?

Sorry @Avatar . I have no idea. My Bean to Cup machine is for filter coffee and is much cheaper than that. There’s a thread about coffee machines at MyBroadband if you want to go search for it.

Thanks, Soli, I found that thread and I’m reading through it. I did find a similar machine of the same brand for around R6.5k, so it looks like I’ll come in low on this one (phew), but I’ll still check out any and all suggestions.

I can only really recommend the Jura brand but they are pricey, I haven’t much else experience with other brands.

Maybe try this:

Hi guys, I am looking to do a Barista course.

Any recommendations or additional info? At the moment I am leaning towards Truth Coffee courses in Cape Town.

So, ahh… remember how @DarthMol started this thread back in 2020… ?

And how @Wyvern reminded us that it’s an annual competition late last year… ?

Well…

It’s only because of your post that I won, so it stands to reason that you have an open invitation to come have a coffee any time :grinning:

For the price of a ticket to visit you, I will buy a few bags of coffee for myself, not sure if you have a choice of flavours? Lazybones is good, the blue bag and the hazelnut one - DONT go for the chocolate one its gross\

Kinda glad I didn’t win… I have a bag of coffee I didn’t even open over the holidays. Man I’ve gotten lazy…

First month of Terbodore Coffee has arrived.

Now just waiting for the Le Creuset plunger and cups. The trusty old Bodum pot will do for now though.
