That sucks, @FarligOpptreden, I’m so sorry.
Hopefully the testing is as effective as we’ve experience with my mom-in-law. She got her test done around mid-morning and had her results by around midnight.

Aww, dang. Sorry you missed out on the getaway. What was the timelag between the negative and positive test?
While I understand people’s skepticism to a degree, it is a little sad to me that one of humanity’s greatest achievements is shrouded in so much cynicism.
I’m not sure what the initial estimates on a vaccine said, but “end of 2021” sounds like a realistic early estimate.
I know early on Bill Gates gave estimates of 9 months to two years, which translated to earliest December/January and latest… I-don’t-want-to-think-about-it.
Most recently I read that even the Pfizer vaccine would probably not pass U.S. FDA requirements until January. The fact that the UK was able to begin vaccinating before the U.S. came as a surprise.
While I’m tempted to say that we got lucky, especially if you consider the early estimates of how long a vaccine would take, I think that when the history about this time is written it will emerge that it wasn’t luck.
The fact that at least three different companies have viable vaccines in the final stages suggests that there was more at play here than luck. This is what happens when you focus the world’s medical research resources on a single task.
As I set out to write this, I was thinking about the glut of zombie-related movies, shows, and games we’ve had in the past few years that explored this issue…
Remember how in so many of those zombie stories, it eventually emerges that there was some attempt to develop a vaccine that was just too late or ultimately failed for some reason?
We’re living in the version of the story where humanity can develop an effective vaccine in a short enough timeframe to change the course of history.
Instead of slipping into a post-apocalyptic dystopia where everyone turns into zombies, we get to inoculate the survivors and recover from the pandemic, and face the next apocalyptic scenario. Maybe climate change? Maybe a Carrington event?
It’s not a perfect metaphor, but y’all know what I’m getting at.
How is your little one?
Im on day 3 of being exposed and the lady’s husband runs the covid ward, he said if we don’t show any symptoms by day 4 not to get tested if no symptoms. There is another shortage of tests
I think you’re spot on. The nose swab test that tickles your brain tests for RNA, that’s the one I was thinking of. The one where they draw blood to test, tests for antibodies.
Ooh, I completely forgot to include this link in my missive. Provides a summary of articles that are behind paywalls.
The doctors my mom-in-law spoke to on her test day said that they have seen only like 2 cases in the 1000+ positive tests they have personally diagnosed where people didn’t show symptoms after day 3.
It was an incredible statistic considering that the “common knowledge” of COVID is that you can be pre-symptomatic for a week or more.
The danger of not getting tested is if you are asymptomatic. If you do not want to self-isolate for 14 days, I really think you should be tested.
I will speak to my doc tomorrow - apparently, we need a doctors letter first. Then to get into a testing site but that is the plan of action.
Also doing the whatsapp check from the covid app
according to that check I just need to keep my distance from people (yay me I do that in anycase)
The irony is we where in the same room for less than 5mins but 2 m apart as well as masked up
Not too great. Loads of bad coughing and high fever. He’s sleeping in the hospital bed now, finally. On my way to the hospital, the neighbours stopped me for a casual chat. When I told them our son was in hospital, they were concerned as their son (who is in our son’s preschool class) also started exhibiting the same symptoms. I also later heard that another parent’s toddler was in hospital earlier this week for the same thing.
Hey, good luck. I’ve taken our girls to the emergency room before and they literally cry so much that they throw up (and then the doctor barely touched them). I don’t think they’ll survive a night in the hospital without us so I can only imagine the hell you’re all going through.
Going for a covid brain tickle myself tomorrow, have to go under the knife on Monday, so it is standard (expensive) operating procedure, yes, pun intended.
Well so far so good. We even did measurements to see how close I was to the lady next door - 2.5m cos she stood outside my office door and we both had masks on.
I have no symptoms and my GP said the same thing - only go test if you feel like you are getting flu. He wont give me the script to test otherwise and I called dischem and currently without it no test.
He did say by sat if I have no symptoms I can go take the rapid test just to see if I have any antibodies.
Shame have they discovered what is wrong with him yet? Im hoping for a speedy recovery!
Not yet no. COVID test also came back negative, so they are waiting on results of blood tests. In the meantime he’s being fed antibiotics through an IV and nebulised twice a day.
awww poor kiddo! I will offer to paint him a new shirt when he gets home!
Im sure he will be ok, please make sure that you and your wife also look after yourself so that you both dont burn the candle at both ends at the same time. Shout if we can help out in any way
That would be great thanks! He loves dinosaurs, especially a “ceyatops” (triceratops). The school taught them about dinosaurs a while ago, including the names of many popular dinos.
Sorry @FarligOpptreden, I know what its like to have a sick baby and no idea what is wrong! Good luck!
Just let me know when he is home and his size then I will make him some
Ahh, the poor little guy. You let him know that we’re are all rooting for him to make a quick and happy recovery and to be home and safe quicker than he can say “Micropachycephalosaurus”.
