I read now that the AZ vaccine that we got 1 million doses of has 2 issues: 1. not very effective against serious effects of covid (still works for mild effects) and 2. the expiry date on those is April. Considering that you have to get 2 doses 2 weeks apart, that makes the distribution of the ones we have a bit tightā€¦

So I know a few of you are clued up on this stuff, so if anyone can contribute, I would appreciate.

We have a new office being set up. It is been confirmed with me that 3 people will be using it simultaneously. I havenā€™t taken measurements yet, but it is CRAMPED!

Am I correct in assuming the the back of each chair must be 2m apart from any other chair, and that there must be proper divers? And would that be a legal requirement?

Am I also correct in assuming that just because all 3 expected people in the office are either frequent guests or occasional domestic help of the same household, it would be irrelevant to the covid restrictions placed on an office space.

I appreciate all input, but I need more than a ā€œyupā€. Iā€™ll need some legal documents. I checked the sacoronavirus.co.za website that is plastered everywhere, but I canā€™t find anything regarding offices, or even links to proper documents. The FAQs donā€™t mention anything. Of course, ā€œNope, thereā€™s nothing official that Iā€™ve foundā€ is a valid response too.

Regardless, I will maintain my right not to enter that space if there is more than one other person present.

Thanks all!

This is from the official government site, officially gazetted. Maybe thatā€™s what you looking forā€¦

Social distancing measures
21. Every employer must arrange the workplace to ensure minimal contact between workers and as far as practicable ensure that there is a minimum of one and a half metres between workers while they are working, for example, at their workstations. Depending on the circumstances of the workplace or the nature of the sector, the minimum distance may need to be greater. Reducing the number of workers present in the workplace at any time in terms of clause 20.8 may assist in achieving the required social distancing.

  1. If it is not practicable to arrange work stations to be spaced at least one and a half metres apart, the employer must-

22.1 arrange physical barriers to be placed between work stations or erected on work stations to form a solid physical barrier between workers while they are working; or
22.2 when required, supply the employee free of charge with appropriate PPE based on a risk assessment of the working place.
23. Every employer must ensure that social distancing measures are implemented through supervision both in the workplace and in the common areas outside the immediate workplace through queue control or within the workplace such as canteens and lavatories. These measures may include dividing the workforce into groups or staggering break -times to avoid the concentration of workers in common areas.

Thanks, this helps tremendously!

I have a feeling theyā€™ll just ignore this though, since it is 3 people who arenā€™t staff using an old office for various purposes. Iā€™ll read on and forward the documents to management to see if they think it applies.

Thanks again!

We are even putting up barriers in the bedroom suites for Stellenboch uni. Even tho its just 2 people sharing a room.
Most offices like the one you are depicting has issued instructions that depending on the size of the space (and that looks tiny) maximum of 2 people should be able to work there and comply

Its fine. People have been stocking up. My ultra liquors sells more stuff now by the box, like people are literally pulling out of the shop with trolleys loaded full.
