Death Stranding 2: On the Beach

Hideo Kojima, ever the auteur, surprise drops a 10-minute release date trailer for DS2. And, as the comments suggest, it has more story and intrigue in it than the average Netflix series.

The game is the sequel to Kojima’s 2019 Death Stranding release, the first game he produced after leaving Konami.

DS2’s cast includes returning stars Norman Reedus, Léa Seydoux and Troy Baker, who are joined by Elle Fanning.

Kojima unveiled the game at the Game Awards 2022. He shared that he had written the game’s original story sometime prior to 2020 but decided to rework the narrative when faced with new story concepts that reflected the impact of COVID-19 on the rest of the world.

Pre-orders open on 17 March. The game will release exclusively for PlayStation 5 on 26 June. Death Stranding saw it’s Windows’ release happen about 6 months after the initial PS release. On that basis, PC gamers may see DS2 somewhere towards the end of 2025 or early in 2026.

I’m in two minds about this game.
On the one hand, I feel that the first one was so good and it ended perfectly, I’m afraid that the 2nd one just won’t live up to the first one or even worse, that they mess up or undo the story from the first game.
On the other hand, if the game is anything like the first (and it looks like it could be), it will probably be one hell of a journey.
