I hope they have insurance with the amount of times I’ve smashed 'em.
Sending the joke 5-0 for you. APB on oltman
Last seen on Stage 3 “discussing” parking strategies with the owner of a random blue van.
One week in and 6D:8H left to go to make the Round 1 cut off.
So far we’ve had seven off the Start Line at Stage 1, but only 2 over the Finish Line at Stage 12: @WarRack101 is currently P1 with 30 seconds over @the9avenger9 in P2.
Sadly, we’ve also had two DNFs already - @oltman on Stage 3 and @Beo on Stage 10! NO!!! So close. Monte Carlo is an unforgiving witch at times.
Beo was doing pretty great too
I’m having a tough time coming to grips with this stage (literally), and I think I should have adjusted my gearbox ratios.
Yeah, I felt I had a really good pace. I did a few higher gear ratios but found it didn’t have the acceleration needed, so instead went back to a more default setting. Instead, I tweaked my suspension firmness and stiffness and got the car really low, and adjusted roll bars too, but my biggest challenge was getting the rear end out on those hairpins.
I feel really ashamed about rolling out of action as was not done in a very spectacular fashion and kinda just mounted the snow mound and slowly went belly up.
Wont lie, I nearly uninstalled after stage 3…
Swing out to the edge of the road 20m before the hairpin, flick-in-lift-throttle-brake, backend comes around, like an annoying aunt with that home made pineapple juice, once you’re pointing into the hairpin, and I mean, at the inside edge, NOT the middle of the road, you floor it, and the front wheels pull the front end back to the out edge of the exit of the corner. Usually needs another lift of the throttle to half or maybe a third throttle, then flat out for exit, proper.
Or just drive miss daisy through the hairpins, it’s risk free, and not much slower against the length of a full stage, with 4 or 5 hairpins.
Yeah, I realised I actually save time if I do some trail-braking and be in the correct gear and speed on corner entry rather than tryna whip it.
I finished my rally, it was pretty rough. Initially I felt quite comfortable with the Mini in the snow, but I started messing up towards the end, and almost drove off the road!
I was 4th at the time and don’t expect that to be secure either.
Good fun though, I enjoyed getting back into it!
Nicely done! And the others who are done with Monaco too.
We are off to Scotland with the Historic Rally H2 RWD cars next, so here’s the route plan if you want to start with some practice runs while you wait for the event to open up.
I think those long stages are killers. Man, they’re brutal.
I cannot wait to see the end of that snowy hell hole… Bring on sunny Scotland!
I love Scotland, but it becomes terrifying when it’s not with a 4WD car, or when it’s an old car, that has suspension made up of rocks and toothpicks. Oh great, this is RWD with old suspension… double whammy
Eish, I didn’t even start yet… As per usual.
FTFY.
Ahh H2 RWD! Time to slide. Maybe I’ll go out and spend some time with an Escort.
I must have misinterpreted your stage overview, as I thought Wales would be next. Hang on, it is Wales… right?
Anyway, H2 RWD song:
Och aye Jimmy! What a nonce I am. I got it into my head that Round 2 was Scotland and didn’t even think to check. And it’s right there on the Stage overview I posted - in capital letters nogal: POWYS.
Apologies to all confused by my lack of attention. Round 2 is NOT in Scotland, it’s in Wales.
Maybe check here next time Greg…!
Oh, and that video is brilliant!! Thanks for sharing.
Ack, why do I always wait until the last minute to do this…
