Don’t Assume My Topic Thread

Evening all.

:slightly_frowning_face:

Sad to say that Paul’s dad’s battle with pulmonary fibrosis ended yesterday evening. He passed away relatively peacefully at home, with his family by his side. He’s breathing easier now. RIP Albert.

Why is it so hard to get to talk to an actual hooman at Vodacom! I keep this frikken bot which doesn’t understand my inputs and just going around in circles.

They want you to hang up

It would seem that way.

From being in calls, messaging and using that stupid USSD to now online chat.

Afternoon all!

They want you to use up all of your free minutes and data bundle so that they can charge you extra and justify the incorrect OOB costs you’re trying to query. Obvious.

Sorry you’re having issues. I’ve found the only way to get Vodacom to anything vaguely efficiently is to physically go into one of their shops and stay there with the consultant until whatever the issue is gets sorted out.

I was close to doing that after struggling for close to two hours. Finally got the bot to recognise that I would like to talk to a consultant and resolved the issue in 2 minutes.

Urgh… Talk about customer care.

I have an old dormant UBI account. The email address is from a company I worked for 12 years ago. My XBOX account is somehow linked to this account.

I cannot play any UBI games on Game Pass as the linked UBI account is dormant.
I cannot log into the account without verifying my email address.
UBI support seems to think I can log in with the XBOX account, but it asks me to link my XBOX account. If I try to do that it says its already linked.

UBI support asked me to prove 3 things with pictures:

  • XBOX profile on my console (they dont care that I no longer have a console)
  • XBOX profile on XBOX.com
  • MY UBI PROFILE ON THE UBI SUPPORT PAGE!!! THE ONE I CANNOT LOG INTO!!!

I have asked them to go to the original email address domain page and see it is being parked by scalpers.
I asked them to email the original email address and they will see the address bounces.
I do not want access to the UBI account, I just want my proven XBOX account unlinked.

Nope. Cannot be done.

PS: I tried their support page chat and they shut you down quickly. Then I tried the public Twitter account and they take forever! First chat was 10 June…

Why do online publications do this? Durban news but the article starts with Jhb. I see it all the time…

Finally, IOL does it right:

I’ve always assumed that’s some sort of journalism style convention to tell the reader that the article writer/news outlet is not actually in the location where the story takes place. The Eyewitness News report is compiled by folk in Johannesburg, even though it’s about a story in Durban. They aren’t there themselves, but are relying on sources that are.

Perhaps our local journalism expert, editor in chief, le grande poobah @SigStart can enlighten us?
