Good afternoon everyone!
Who’s excited for the 18% increase in electricity tariffs
I swear it wasn’t me
Today was my first time out of the house since Christmas Day, not counting a visit to the Doctor and pharmacy on the 31st. I developed an allergic reaction to something which quickly upgraded into an upper respiratory tract infection in Egypt 6 days into my 2-week trip. On day 9 my host took me to the hospital to see a doctor and I had a 7-day course of antibiotics. I managed to get through my training program successfully though! And flew home.
I also managed two Christmas events with family and finished my antibiotics. Seemed to be getting a bit better but got sicker instead (still did 3 days of work, too!) and by my birthday I barely had a voice and trying to talk lead to intense coughing fits. So back to the doctor (I am eternally grateful to the lovely locum doctor who worked on a Saturday, not just any Saturday, the 31st!) for a different course of antibiotics and a lung steroid treatment via nebuliser. I basically slept 16 hours a day and did as little as possible for the other 8.
To top it off, last Thursday evening I came down with a very nasty bout of food poisoning. I am not a stranger to illness, but that was the worst night of my life. I was genuinely convinced at one point that I was dying. Anyway, up until yesterday I was still sleeping up to 12 hours a day. Today I woke up with some energy and was able to shower, get dressed, and go out. I picked up an emergency foster doggo at Woodrock and took her to her foster home. Sydney helped, of course. He’s been by my side through this whole illness. He’s the best.
I still have a residual cough which is annoying, but it will take weeks for my lungs to heal fully and get rid of the last of the phlegm. Next week I head down to Cape Town, so maybe I can get a few days of holiday gaming in after all
Morning all.
Glad to hear you’re on the mend @Ani. Sounds like a not fun way to “celebrate” the holidays.
It was me. I didn’t know what to change it to so I tried to find something nice that would fit.
Morning all.
Loving the new Mac, just not so much the Office suite that the IT guy installed. I understand that he’s just following protocol but damn, Outlook is fugly!
Good morning everyone.
Morning people of the palace
Chaos busy is chaos
I’m seriously considering a Cadac skottel to get us by during these dark times.
That is why we installed a 2 place gas stove a few years ago. 9kgs lasts us forever
get a gas stove, i bought a 6 plate one brand new, the dixon inhouse brand at cash crusaders for 6k the bosch equivalent is like 15k, that and a nice size thank and youre sorted, minimum 9kg, we started with 9kg but were currently have a 14kg hooked up and im gonna get a spare tank thats gonna be our reserve, things are just gonna get worse
theyre selling hi sense ones now i see, i bought mine 4 years ago so the price has gone up (oops this appears to be second hand) but thats how they look
correct one
We installed one of these. We now use it to boil water at all times and for cooking during loadshedding
Yeah, I’m thinking of getting a Cadac two plate countertop burner, along with a SkottelBraai and just using a single 5KG gas bottle to interchange between them when needed. Unfortunately, we can’t just replace stoves and such as we don’t own and the place wasn’t exactly built for a gas stove either so there is nowhere to place it.
Be careful, though, new studies show that gas stoves contribute to between 6 and 19% of childhood asthma in the US.

I second gas stove purchases! My wife and I bought one when we got married 28 years ago and we still use it every day. Cooking is no problem during load shedding. Baking is not easy, it is an old model and the oven itself is pretty leaky but 4 gas “elements” rocks.
