Haven’t been to the park in years. Melrose Arch once or twice, but also not recently. The park is very nice (at least it was) and very well maintained. What’s happening at the James & Ethel Park anyway?

Morning all. I’m marking my 3rd Year Entrepreneurship students’ Final Exams. It’s part fulfilling and rewarding, and part rage inducing frustration. :rage:

It’s also World Kindness Day. Therefore, as an act of kindness today, I won’t talk to anyone around me. It’ll be better for all concerned.

This has always been my experience in marking. Luckily I haven’t had to do it since varsity, else my blood pressure would’ve been much, much higher.

‘tis Friday for me - I had to cancel two days’ leave last week to help handle a client issue. It’s been sorted, so I asked for the Friday to spend some time with my wife on her last weekday of sick leave.

What a day! After sitting in my hotel room, working for 4.5 hours, I got out and joined my colleagues for an unforgettable afternoon and evening. Between 14:00 and 22:00 we:

  • Played public transport bingo and ticked off train, metro, tram, bus, and ferry rides.
  • Had an Uber in a Tesla Model 3, driven by a girl called Gabriella who doesn’t speak English.
  • Went to the amazing Lisbon aquarium.
  • Went to the Christ the King statue.
  • Had a wonderful meal at a placed called the Bipolar Restaurant.
  • Visited the “Marvel Wall”, a huge painted mural with loads of comic book characters painted on tiles.
  • Walked a total of 14km.

All in all, it was a pretty successful touristy day on the last day of Web Summit. Tomorrow we’re doing more sight seeing, going to a market, explore an old castle, and finish off with a fishy dinner.

Then on Saturday morning we’re flying back home. As great as Lisbon is, I miss Cape Town quite a lot.

Did you love the main course but hate the dessert?

Sounds like a good adventure!

It was great! And today we visited a craft market with loads of concept stores. The we got lost in a 13 story department store (literally a whole towering open-plan mall with hundreds of “shops” as departments) which included a Tesla dealership.

So after looking at the Model 3 and Model Y, the guy asked if we’d like to test drive. We gleefully accepted the offer, even though it’s left hand drive. So he gave us the keys to a performance Model 3.

After getting lost again on our way to basement level 3, we finally found the car. Then we had to figure out how to change it to English from Portuguese, which took a good 10 minutes. Then we carefully drove through the parking lot, trying to find an exit that would work, as the guy said the tag in the window would open any exit boom.

Sadly, we didn’t find any boom that worked, so proceeded to just drive around the parking lot in a quiet area. There was one long straight stretch with no people or cars, so naturally we floored the car to test its 600 horses. What. A. Drive.

My heart sank into my feet as I floored the car and saw the wall ahead shoot forward at break-neck speed. The one-pedal driving immediately started braking the car before I even touched the brake pedal.

Even though the Model 3 is the entry level, it’s a super luxurious vehicle with plush, minimalist finishes. I would buy one in an instant if they were ever officially launched in ZA at affordable prices. With discounts applied and buying through a company to write off VAT in Portugal, the price of a Model 3 is just under €29,000, which is R551k give or take. Absolute bargain for that car!

I would buy one too at that price, would buy 10!

Yeah, bargain of the millennium!

…my K got lost in the typing.

Forgot to mention, that car has a 0-100 time of only 2.9 seconds. It really feels like a supercar in sedan form.
