So yesterday morning at around 04:00 someone tried to steal cables from the mini sub that serves our complex and the two neighbouring ones (again!) and so we had no power. It was finally restored just before 17:00 today. 37 hours without power. Our fridge completely warmed, I put the most critical items in our deep freeze which stayed coldest the longest so we didn’t have to throw away four brand new tubs of yogurt, or two bottles of fresh juice. Our ice-cream melted though, and we’ll have to check every item before we use it, but I’m actually quite impressed with our fridge and how long it stayed cool. But I’m so angry about the repeated thefts. Our trustees are working on getting the other two complexes to chip in to fence in the mini sub to try prevent this from happening again. And Tshwane for taking so long to fix it (and allegedly causing the entire neighbourhood to go down when they tried to turn our sub on the first time). The technicians came back like four times. The last time was for almost three hours. To replace some cables and a bracket. Waddefok, ouens. Anyway.
Although, the last time this happened our DB and many others in the complex got fried. We lost our router, several plugs and chargers, our dishwasher got blitzed ded, and my garage motor got burnt out by the surge. Others in our complex lost fridges and major appliances and such as well. Well over 200,000 randelas worth of damage to our complex overall, for some copper that probably net them R50-R100 at the scrapyard. I’m still angry. Our insurance fixed/replaced everything except my garage motor, which set me back R5500 for a new one. Our new dishwasher is supposed to be an upgrade, a newer model, but it’s not as nice as the previous one. Smaller, so the air fryer basket and base doesn’t fit as nicely. Less adjustable racks and such. Weird rods in strange places that make it harder to pack stuff in.
