EA Sports WRC

I think it’s looking more and more promising…!

Only thing that isn’t is the price.

The full list of rally locations and routes has been revealed.

We’ve got:

  • Monte-Carlo: Rallye Monte Carlo - A classic mountainous asphalt rally, complicated with wintry and icy conditions.
  • Sweden: Rally Sweden - Spruce trees, snow banks and icy straights make up this iconic snow rally.
  • Mexico: Guanajuato Rally México - A highly technical desert rally run on extreme and hazardous terrain.
  • Croatia: Croatia Rally - A fast and technical asphalt rally through rustic villages and winding mountain roads.
  • Portugal: Vodafone Rally de Portugal - A long, fast and flowing rally through idyllic and vibrant countryside.
  • Sardinia: Rally Italia Sardegna - A difficult rally with winding gravel roads navigating the warm coastal regions.
  • Kenya: Safari Rally Kenya - This gravel rally is both visually stunning and ruggedly harsh as it cuts through the African wilderness.
  • Estonia: Rally Estonia - A blazingly fast rally through big jumps, wide gravel roads and tight stages.
  • Finland: Secto Rally Finland - Competitors fly through stages of big jumps and wide roads in this gravel rally.
  • Greece: EKO Acropolis Rally Greece - High temperatures, twisting mountain roads and abrasive gravel surfaces make this rally a battle of attrition.
  • Chile: Bio Bío Rally Chile - A challenging and versatile gravel rally set within stunning natural vistas.
  • Japan: Forum8 Rally Japan - A fast, flowing asphalt rally with plenty of verticality through the mountainous Chubu region.
  • Mediterranean: Rally Mediterraneo (Fictional) - A historic asphalt rally with unforgiving obstacles and extreme drops.
  • Pacific: Agon by AOC Rally Pacifico (Fictional) - A tricky gravel rally set within the humid and tropical jungles of East Asia.
  • Oceania: Fanatec Rally Oceania (Fictional) - Rolling hills and sweeping roads characterise this iconic gravel rally.
  • Scania: Rally Scandia (Fictional) - An uncompromising snow rally taking place in the freezing cold Nordic forests.
  • Iberia: Rally Iberia (Fictional) - A blisteringly fast asphalt rally through the countryside of España.
  • Central Europe: Central European Rally - This location will be arriving in a free post-launch update.

Check the linked page for stage details. I spotted 30km+ stages on Scania, Pacifico, Chile, Sardinia, and Portugal. And many of the others have 20km+ stages. Also noticed no stages named “Reverse” or “Sprint”. There are some events with multiple pairs of stages with the same length (Oceania, Iberia, Estonia for example) but at least the stages all have unique names.

Also some new images to go with the locations list. These definitely look a lot better in terms of the environments than the images released earlier.

So envious.

More positive talk from the preview, this time from Jimmy Broadbent:

Jardier also had good things to say about the game. He was especially impressed with the sound.

Isn’t the majority of the Codemasters team a part of EA now anyway?

Also, didn’t Evolution Studios get acquired by and absorbed into Codemasters?

If they had actually bothered to put a FFB bar on the screen with simhub, along with wheel and pedal cams, some of us would care about these videos. Everything is here say, because you can’t tell someone what FFB feels like, because everyone has their own subjective point of view on what feels like what. The traxion sco’ish dude, seemed the most comfortable and competent, and there by, believable. You can actually spot some advanced techniques in his driving, to man-handle the car around the stage. All these other people look like they are fumbling around the stages. Simracing604 was also super painful to watch, as friendly as easy going as Mike is, meh. That said, it is bloody difficult driving and talking. Also, to cut back to the original video where Jon Armstrong drives, it is now obvious to see and appreciate what a stonking real life rally driver he is.

Broadbent does have his pedal cam and his wheel cam (from the wrong side!) in most of his clip when in the cockpit view. I would like to see the telemetry output as well though. Maybe not enabled in these preview builds?

But how does it play/feel with a controller? Everyone seems to review and give impressions from a wheel based perspective.

I confirmed with the Community Manager that the only way all the creators given access to the Preview could play was through Steam on PC. We have to wait a while for the prerelease reviews to come - some of those will be from console and controller based players.

What is the Rally Pass?

The Rally Pass is a progression system in EA SPORTS WRC where players can unlock a range of items to customise their drivers and cars.

XP is earned through all on-road activity players will take part in throughout the game, and this XP unlocks items throughout the Rally Pass’s 20 levels.

Each Season, players can unlock a racing suit, pair of gloves, a helmet design for their custom driver, and a selection of decals for use in the livery editor, as well as a livery to show off on the Ford Puma Rally1 HYBRID, Hyundai i20 N Rally1 HYBRID, and the Toyota GR Yaris Rally1 HYBRID.

The Rally Pass will start from the game’s launch, and each season will run as follows:

Season 1 - 7 Weeks - Starting at Launch
Season 2 - 8 Weeks - Starting December 2023
Season 3 - 8 Weeks - Coming in 2024
Season 4 - 8 Weeks - Coming in 2024
Season 5 - 8 Weeks - Coming in 2024

There are no exclusive cars or locations contained within the Rally Pass. The game’s 78 cars and over 200 rally stages are available to everyone from launch with no additional purchase required.

Additionally, there is no paid in-game currency or boosters in EA SPORTS WRC

This came out yesterday if you pre-ordered. I only got to put in a couple of hours.

There is a big jump forward with the car model details. The cars I drove all look more real. Environments look good too, but be careful when changing aliasing settings. I tried to reduce them for performance which made everything “shimmer”.

Performance on PC is spotty. With a 3070, 5800X 3D and 32GB of RAM, there was noticeable stutter with the default settings. I had to turn DLSS on and reduce things further to get acceptable performance. Just UE5 things.

Things can feel pretty special when it runs smoothly. Driving from cockpit view feels immersive thanks to the visual and lighting improvements.

The driving is quite different. It feels like there are more degrees (literally as well) of control than before. It feels like there is more feedback on my T300 too. Revving the engine causes different vibration and the weight changes are quite realistic. I still think I want the tyre slip feedback to be a bit better, but I didn’t race long enough to actually wear down tyres.

I took the old Escort out on a tar road and it feels way different. In Dirt 2.0, it had to be handled delicately. Too much throttle, brakes or steering would make it spin. In WRC, none of this behaviour is here. I had to double check that ABS and TC was off.

It felt good to drive and I felt “in-control” but almost too easy. I don’t know if this is because the input is better or whether the simulation has changed so much.

I also took the Group B Audi for a drive in Greece. Here too, the car felt way more manageable than in Dirt 2.0. I did like the road feedback here. It was a highly rutted track and the wheel feedback was good, it followed the pattern of the track which made it a very physical experience.

Overall, this is a promising game and I look forward to spending more time with it.

I haven’t tried gamepad controls for Beo yet!

Haven’t even started the game yet, but the Rally Club is set up :grinning:

Details here…

…but the TLDR version is that I can’t find a way to invite all existing club members, so you’ll have to request to join through the EA Friends list on RaceNet.
