Evil Genius 2: World Domination

The few reviews on Steam already look promising. sounds like they are fans of the prequel and they are impressed so far. I’m excited!

That main menu music though…

So what do you think about the game so far?

I’ve played about 10 hours and started with Zalika on the third choice island (the one in the Indian Ocean) and the game started clicking with me. It’s very similar to the gameplay loop of the original game, but with a great number of modern quality of life changes.

Some of the things I’m liking of the game is:

  • Minion management is much better! Minions are a true resource and should be think of as expendable, as they definitely are.
  • Money making is both much easier and harder all at the same time. It’s a great challenge added to the game.
  • The islands are massive and the addition of floors adds so much added space to go ahead and build the lairs you really want.
  • The fact that the casino is now the front face of your base is awesome. Once you get the deception minions going you can build a great distraction for agents visiting your base. If you build it correctly agents will leave your base without ever setting foot within your base.

There are some annoyances though:

  • The world map is not great at letting you know vital information, like how much money you’re making or which regions belongs to which justice group.
  • The missions on the world map can be rather samey and needs micro managing once super agents appear.
  • Super agents are really annoying and will take out more than half of all your minions when they attack. And some of them teleport right into your base past all your traps. That’s annoying.

So far I like the game!

Decided to cave and buy it, looks really good, and looks like the type of game I really want to play right now.

Really enjoyed the little bit of time I’ve had with it so far too. Hopefully more this weekend.

Did have the game crash on me that ended my first play session. Other than that, no glitches or odd bugs that I’ve had.

Game annoyances for me at the moment:

  • May have missed something in the tutorial, but can’t work out why my security cameras don’t alert me when there’s agents about. Have randomly discovered agents wandering about my lair 3 times now and not seen/heard any indication that they were there. And I have cameras at my entrance and guards on duty in the security control room.
  • Can’t figure out how to “buy a country” on the World Stage to complete my current task - am guessing that I have to start a new Criminal Network somewhere and hope that there’s a “Buy this country” scheme there?
  • I wish there was a way to automate stuff on the World Stage. Successfully completed a Scheme? Cool, here’s the next one for you to start. Even if there were added requirements or if it was more expensive, or you needed to employ an additional Henchman to “manage” things for you.

I’m very keen to carry on with the Campaign. But I also want to start a Sandbox Mode session, just to see what sort of lair can be built…

Same with the cameras, mine also do the same, not alerting me about anything, are we both missing something or perhaps the tutorial just does not explain it well.

I have an option on England to buy it, just check there:

Security cameras wilm only alert your muscle minions sitting at the desk in the Armory once they see a gents tagged with capture or kill tags. Security cameras will also take away the disguises of agents while within line of sight. So only if you’ve exclusively tagged agents, they will not be actioned once picked up on camera. Later in in tier 3 and 4 research will you be able to automatically remove any agent from an area covered by your cameras. Also note that only 3 cameras are linked to one desk. Any other cameras wi not work.

Once super agents appear on the world stage, you absolutely do not want automation on the map. You need to take extra care not to run any schemes while they are active, otherwise they will come to your base and rek some sheet!

OK update, as Mr Hammer said, they do only alert guards at the armory that are already tagged, and I have now unlocked research that have made them a lot better so just keep researching and the cameras will become a lot more worth it, not even that far along. as agents now get auto tagged when entering my base

I have only played a little bit so far and I have been enjoying it so far. I get the same feeling from the original where I have to constantly fight the urge to restart due to my base layout being sub optimal.

The biggest annoyance so far is the financial stats. They aren’t the most straightforward. I think the devs need to obtain the secrets of GAAP from an accountant minion

Out now: The Portal Pack is free to all, the Mechanical Minions DLC update goes out to Season Pass holders.

Thanks to a partnership with Aperture Science, it’s now possible to connect far-flung areas of your Lair together using portals! These highly advanced gateways have proven to be completely safe, and provide a useful shortcut for anyone sent through them. In addition there is an exciting and completely new addition to Lairs everywhere: the autonomous Turret, which will open fire on unwanted visitors and defectors alike!

Mechanical Minions are the reliable choice – you can recruit them straight from your own assembly lines, and they are free from issues inherent to their human counterparts such as ‘ideals’, ‘scruples’ and ‘morals’. Without the needs for food or a salary, they truly understand what it means to be but a cog in the machine!
