All the pieces are assembled. Now, the show just needs a home.

After teasing a major announcement for the past few weeks, actor Nathan Fillion took the stage at Awesome Con on Sunday, March 15 to announce a new season of Firefly. The catch? The beloved live-action space-western will return as an animated series set between the end of the original show and the follow-up film Serenity.

Fillion was joined onstage by his Firefly castmates: Alan Tudyk, Gina Torres, Jewel Staite, Morena Baccarin, Sean Maher, and Summer Glau. Not present was Adam Baldwin, who will also voice his character. Fillion also shared concept art for the new series from animation studio ShadowMachine (BoJack Horseman, Robot Chicken), which was published online as a Deadline exclusive.

At first I was like “Meh”.

Then I saw the OG cast will be doing the voices, which helps, but still… Meh.

We’ll see where it winds up. If it is on one of the services my parents have when they visit next year I’ll give it a shot.

I am excited for this. Its basically the best way they could’ve continued the firefly stories, imo. And they’ve got the right creatives behind it as well, I think. I’m not holding my breath for the best show ever, but I will watch every second, probably twice.

Im excited, as long as the cartoon version doesnt irritate me - Im not fan of Shadowmachine’s work, but that is the scripts so hopefully I can get into it.
