Fortnite players tried to destroy Tilted Towers in mass meetup

Fortnite players have been prophesying the death of Tilted Towers for close to a month, but when that destruction never came, players took matters into their own hands.

A Reddit meetup organized by user xsqoof occurred last night at 6 p.m. ET. xsgoof referred to the meetup as a wake for Tilted Towers, calling for players to pay tribute to the map’s area by absolutely destroying it. The failure of a long foreshadowed meteor strike taking out Tilted Towers did’t stop the community from looking into other methods to honor the day.

“We will all queue up at the same time into solos, and land at Tilted Towers to honor it’s greatness by destroying every single structure in the city,” xsgoof wrote. “Every tree, every building, every car. Once everything is gone, we all have a massive dance party to pay respects to the city. Be there, to honor this soon-to be fallen location by standing united and in harmony.”

Much to the surprise of the community, and xsgoof, people queued at 6 p.m. and helped each other destroy the property around them. Footage of the wake can be seen in the video below.

Despite good intentions, there were some problems. Trolls showed up to the event and started to kill players who were using their axes and weapons to cut down trees and wreck other objects.

“I was breaking down my first building when I was killed by a guy,” another Fortnite player said on Reddit. “As I spectated him, he switched to his axe and started breaking things until he was close to another guy. Then he switched to shotgun, killed him, and switched back to his axe and blended in again. He had six kills before someone finally caught on and dealt with him.”

Griefers running through a community event isn’t anything new, but the Fortnite community didn’t seem too put out by the situation. Photos of players running to Tilted Towers and working in harmony with one another flooded Twitter and Reddit. People thanked xsgoof for organizing the event, and giving the community something to bond over.

“Thank you Reddit, this was awesome,” a Reddit user who uploaded the photo below said.

Even though the event is based on utter destruction of a contentious area, players seemed to view the wake as a positive event for the community; a way to embrace the failure of a meteor striking Tilted Towers down and have some fun with one another in the process.

“I’m glad to have moved the community in such a way and to have coordinated this entire event because it blew up and I really wasn’t expecting it to,” xsgoof said. “Thanks for upvoting to make it all possible <3 even though we had some failed games with trolls and what not, we had a lot of successful runs. Seriously, thank you all, this wouldn’t have been possible without your help.”

Because the comets/asteroids things look like they are slowly heading towards Tilted Towers and everyone thinks it’s going to ‘destroy’ it. Nobody knows what all of it means. So they thought they’d all get together and destroy Tilted Towers as a omage to it before whatever happens to it happens.
