Expedition 33 is most likely going to win most awards. Personally since its about the only game I played that was released this year, Hades 2 wins game of the year hands down for me.

Overachiever…

For me both Clair Obscur and Silksong are my personal games of the year. I’d put Clair Obscur as #1 because of the originality of the gameplay, characters and story blew me away. I did feel that the open world aspect of Act 3 diluted the gripping nature of the story a little bit, but wow what an experience that still remains with me.

I knew Sillksong was going to be great, but man did Team Cherry exceed expectations. The difficulty does mean it’s not going to be everyone’s personal favourite, but for those who love the genre, it is the pinnacle.

I have yet to play Hades 2 and based on the first game I know I’ll enjoy and sink many hours into it. But even if I did play it, I doubt it would be able to knock the over two off their pedestals.

As an aside - this has been Game Pass’s best year by a landslide, pity Microsoft has spoiled that wonderful achievement with the crazy price increases. I’d gladly be without another COD release if it meant keeping the subscription prices in check.

I am just jealous
Thanks for detailing everything!

I hope Ninja Gaiden 4 wins best action game. It is just that good, and it’s so rare that games like this get released.

CONTROVERSY! SKANDAAL!

Megabonk’s solo dev withdraws from the “Best Debut Indie Game” category as he has made other games under different studio names…

Now people are pointing to other games in the category, questioning their eligibility. Clair Obscur’s dev has millions in funding, Dispatch devs were working at TellTale games etc etc. So what qualifies a game as “indie” and when is it a “debut” game? Is it debut for the studio or the devs or what?

Yeah… my favourite game in that category, Dispatch, is also from a studio of very experienced hands (ex-Telltale people), as you point out.

But it’s the only category they’ve been nominated in and I hope they win something because it’s some of the best character work / writing I’ve seen in a game in years.

I guess it’s about the “spirit” of the definition, versus the dictionary one.

If you have a supergroup composed of well known musicians and they release a new album, it would be their debut. It’s also not a given that it would just work, and it should still be recognised if it does.

Different form of media I guess, but still. Also, it’s surely normal for devs to move from studios and start new ones?

Hope you all got your Player’s Voice votes in on time. Talking about time, here’s the broadcast time map for tonight’s (tomorrow morning’s) broadcast. (And again, the lack of a single African time just to piss me off. Again. I can’t understand why it’s so difficult to simply add even a single reference anywhere on the entire continent. Dumbasses.)

Not that it really matters, I guess. Unless you’re working night shift or are struggling with insomnia, I doubt many of us are going to be sitting through a two hour plus broadcast from 2 in the morning. If you are, the broadcast starts at 02:00 SAST with the traditional 30-minute pre-show, with the main Game Awards 2025 show beginning at 02:30.

Various ways to watch the stream live, including YouTube, Twitch, Steam, Facebook Live, X, Kick, TikTok Live, Instagram, and on IGN and Gamespot channels too. And a host of co-streams all over as well. I’ll drop the YouTube and Twitch streams into a standalone comment below this as they’ll be the two that have the best quality replays for us to scan through at a more sensible time later in the day.

I’ll also add any new release trailers that I can find along the way here, as well as the winners, so if you don’t want that spoiled, DON’T scroll down past the broadcast post that follows this.

In addition to seeing if Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, with its record of 13 nominations, can break the record of seven awards won by The Last Of Us Part II from 2020, the show will also feature a host of new reveals. as usual.

It has already been officially confirmed that the “future of Tomb Raider” will be revealed at the show, meaning Lara Croft’s next game will almost certainly be shown (unless it’s actually referring to Prime Video’s upcoming live-action Tomb Raider series).

PlayStation has also confirmed that players will “get a new look” at Saros, the upcoming action game from Returnal studio Housemarque, which is set to release in February.

The show will also include the first look at the debut game from Wildflower Interactive, the new studio formed by Uncharted 4 and The Last of Us co-director Bruce Staley.

We’ll also finally get to find out the meaning behind the mysterious statue that was erected in the Mojave Desert to promote a new game – though it appears this mystery may already have been solved with an icon matching the statue being register by Larian Studios together with a new Divinity logo.

Capcom has already confirmed that a new trailer for Resident Evil Requiem will air during the event. The PlayStation Store recently accidentally showed an image of a second playable character, so the new trailer will almost certainly officially reveal them.

In terms of games that are likely but not yet confirmed, the PEGI ratings website listed Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced earlier this week, so we could finally get official confirmation of the Black Flag remake that’s been reported and rumoured for some time now.

Other games officially confirmed to have trailers or new information at The Game Awards include The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin, Solo Leveling: Arise Overdrive, Soulframe, Marvel Rivals, Phantom Blade Zero and Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has won the Game of the Year award at The Game Awards 2025.

French developer Sandfall Interactive‘s critically acclaimed RPG took home the biggest prize of the night, along with awards for Best Indie Game, Best Debut Indie Game, Best Art Direction, Best Score, Best RPG, Best Narrative, Best Game Direction and Best Performance (for Jennifer English).

The only categories it was nominated for but didn’t win were Best Audio Design (which was won by Battlefield 6) and the player-voted Players’ Voice award, which was won by Wuthering Waves.

Clair Obscur had already broken the record for most Game Awards nominations with 13, but Sandfall’s haul of nine awards also means the game has set a new record for the most awards won at The Game Awards, a record previously set by The Last of Us Part II, which won seven awards at the 2020 show.

The game was so dominant that no other game scored multiple awards on the night.

Im a hugh street fighter fan but i still think the mk2 movie is going to be better, all of the lice action sf movies sucked this far, the best strewt fighter movies are the anime ones, even the animated series street fighter 2V which alot of people dont know about was extremely good
