Happy 20th Anniversary EVE πŸŽ‚

Loved this game, played it since 2010. On and off over the years. It is by far the most player run game ever made.

I gave this a watch, and I must say, visually, it’s right up my alley. There are times the game just looks phenomenal. This is the type of sci-fi that I love.

Edit: this also reminds me of the days I used to play Homeworld.

Edit edit: forgot to link the video

What always interested me about EVE was the drama and intrigue that the community created themselves.

To give you perspective, to get into most corporations that live in the most dangerous parts of eve you need to have multiple voice/vid interviews with screenshots of your character’s holdings etc. They take it very seriously. Most of the big betrayals are years in the planning.

My specialities in PVP is, not surprisingly, was to play a healer or known as a logi player. I have 2 characters in different accounts that can fly all of the non capital β€œhealing ships” fully trained. I love doing it in battles both big and small. One character can fly and use some of the capital logi shops, like the min0 (minokawa) and apostle mentioned in the vid.

There is SO much you can specialise in, all it takes is time and in game ISK. One of my most favourite times in the game was playing an explorer. I worked for an organisation called Eve Scout and Signal cartel where we would scout space for wormhole entrances and list them and map them on a website for players to use. They only last about a day. The whole corporation was funded by donations from other corporations for this convenience.

It meant finding a spot in space, jumping through, not knowing where in the universe you would pop out, dealing with the local players there and trying to hide, all while mapping the exit and looking for other spots by using an involved scanning mechanic in a specialised cloaked scanning ship.

You could literally pop out on the other side of the eve map.

Exciting stuff

Best thing you can do is to play it for free, do the tutorial bits and decide if it is for you. Couple of things to keep in mind that you will realise pretty quickly:

  1. Flying spaceships is not like Elite dangerous since you basically tell your ship to warp and fly to points in space. You can direct pilot it but most don’t. Making more a strategic game than a spaceship sim
  2. There is no buying things without fetching them, you want something for your ship, you have to buy it and then fly to the station to get it or pay someone to get it to you.

Ergh, now I have downloaded the client and reactivated my accounts. I might even dive back in again. Nostalgia!
