Idle Observatory - Click, Click, Stars!

Impressive. I enjoy seeing the numbers and how each person plays differently.

Yea…you really get bitten if you upgrade too early too often…but I suspect it “levels out” a bit in the late game as the punishment hurts less and less relatively (going from every 10000 to every 20000 hurts a lot more than when you go from 80000 to 90000).

I get trigger happy at 500% already, I can’t imagine 5000% or 25000%

I could have tried waiting but the advantages of the wait is much better - I have reached the same point I was in the game in 2 days than the 20 days I played

Questions for you that I’ve dying to ask since the start:

  1. Does manually targeting sky objects (aka furious tapping) influence the rate of appearance, location, or reward value of the supernovae?
  2. Does the speed and accuracy with which you catch a supernova affect the reward value? I ask because in the science world, the sooner you detect astronomical phenomena and train your telescopes on the source, the more valuable data you gather. But then again, in the real world, nobody gonna give you Quadrillions of Dollah for discovering a new star/object :joy:

Ask away. I’m happy to answer anything.

No

It uses a random time from the stats min time to min+50s as max to appear, then it uses the width of the screen and the height of that top image to randomly choose a location. The reward value is a random multiplier of current production between the min stats multiplier amount and again min+50 as max.

The idea is to add in an upgrade that let’s you increase that base multiplier amount. I’ve put it in to also lower the min appearance time, but I’m not quite sure how to implement that yet. I don’t want it to appear every second. There are also plans to add more objects on the screen. The next one will be a dot just slowly moving across the image to represent a satellite.

No

But this idea has been brought up already. I like it, I just need to figure out how it would work. Visually I can make the animation do anything so had some ideas to maybe make it flicker a bit and then slowly fade maybe. I don’t know :grinning:

I did not actually know that. That just makes it even more appealing to add in…some time :grinning:

The idea was always to try to have some sort of ‘reason’ for doing things in the game, like some backstory reason. Yes it’s just a game but I wanted some truth behind things a bit. That’s why the whole Data Storage upgrade thing about how you upgrade but you have to throw out your old data as it’s basically worthless and all your observatories would need to be retrofitted to use the new data system but it would be cheaper to just rebuild them from scratch, hence the total wipe.

So it’s a cool idea.

Sorry for the drawn out answer

You get 10000000 internet points for that explanation.

You mean 10M points :stuck_out_tongue:

Also do me a favour, make sure the floaty screen when waiting for the boost is not “transparent” a few times now I have been tapping the supernova’s and now and then when I accidentally tap the boost screen I can tap thru it and I change my multiplier without intending too.

Awesome answers, thanks!

Another cool feature that people might want to “watch an ad to earn” would be the ability to undo their last purchase? So you watch an ad, and then you earn one undo, and then when you make a purchase (I’ve done that accidentally before) then you get 15 seconds or so to undo it?

PS when observatories switch over to a new data system, or new control software, or even to a completely new technology in the telescope, the old data is never thrown away! It’s never useless, unless it has been proven that there was an actual problem with the device that made it record corrupted data. My friend did her PhD and she used old data but she developed a new algorithm and combined old data from different sources and discovered several previously undetected binary neutron stars! But I understand the concept you have built into the game

What about data corruption? Hard drives failing or something along those lines?

Also storage/hard drive space? Not enough space would slow down progress?

Yeah, absolutely. The SKA will produce so much raw data that it could take over the internet in an hour. This is why they had to build an on-site data centre and have teams of engineers developing algorithms to autonomously detect what is data of interest and what is ‘empty’ space (uninteresting data) so that they can delete 80% of the data on the first pass and only transmit the other 20% to Cape Town and Joburg using the dedicated fibre line laid out to Carnarvon from the nearest connection point on the N1 cross-country fibre tunnel.

Also, backups, and more backups. Data is always backed up.

I’m trying to decide if I upgrade at 10k or 15k
