In-game Reading

Do you read documents (i.e books, pamphlets, laptops etc) you find in games, and do you feel it relates to the premise of the game, perhaps some element of the game you come to find out about eventually.

Or do you just pick up these things and be on your merry way?

They’re sometimes insightful, other times they seem like nonsense.

I think it was in F.E.A.R. 2 Project Origin where I found the documents to have relevance in the “world” of the game, and piqued my interest.

This actually started watching Markiplier play The Evil Within, and he’d read the notes and such stashed around and it gave great insight into what’s happening in the game.

For me it depends on the game really. Some games I love the lore and read as much as a I can. Other games I’ll start out reading everything and then eventually just skip it. Like Deus Ex Mankind Divided. The lore just didn’t grab me.

Where lore in the Dragon Age games are just amazing.

I do if I come across some something and I’m not rushing. Like in Skyrim I read everything I came across and sometimes searched houses for books. When we played Alien Swarm I just read the logs I came across. Same in Grim Dawn.
