Itā€™s so exciting! More so than I thought it would be. I love how the weather hit here and then later hit there.

I wish we can get F1 at Kyalami.

A site to help figure out what to buy. It needs some work still but something to keep an eye on.

I think I might be cursed. The iRacing gods do not look kindly upon me.

So I did a race last night in the Kia, and was placed in the top seed. I finally made it to the top seed for the Fanatec Global Challenge, and qualified in a respectable 4th place. The race got underway and all seemed fine. I overtook 3rd and had a solid start to the race. Later with the faster cars approaching, some of them drove like assholes and I lost a heap of time, ending up being overtaken by my closest rival and ending in 4th. I was about 15 seconds ahead of 5th place so I settled in for the remainder of the race. And then, with 2 minutes left, I got passed by the lead pair of Cadillacā€™s. This was on a tight part of the track, and the guy chasing 1st place spun as he passed me. I feel like I gave him plenty of room, he just tried to make a move on the lead car. He spun off track, lost control and came back onto the track right in front of me. There was no time to react or swerve or brake. I plowed straight into him, causing my car to defy the laws of physics and start flipping violently. I saw the sky, then the ground, then sky again, then the rail guard, and then trees, and then nothing. My car was a write-off and I spawned in the pits again. Ended the race in 6th place due to the fact that there was like 2 laps left. But damn I was so disheartened by that.

I mean thatā€™s just racing you know? Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you get punted into oblivion. But I shall prevail.

Even with everything that happened you still did super well!

I also have the Monday bluesā€¦ I donā€™t want to talk about itā€¦

So here is something to lift the mood.

Well, I saved my license in the last few races. I am safely in line for my B license upgrade at the end of the season!

My iRating, however, has taken a knock. See, you only need ONE big smash to lose iRating points, while it only takes 4x of safety rating pointsā€¦

@Nosferatie tell us about it. There can be closure in sharing. What happened? Who did you drive with? Anyone we might know? Did anything happen?

Okay I really want to hear this story.

On my side I want to get familiar with this weekā€™s track for IMSA and then do enough so that I can also get my B class license when this season ends.

Nice podium!!!

Still a few small mistakes that cost me a place or two, but top 10 is fine!

Happy new track day iRacers!!

I watched a video yesterday about how to practice in racing games, and it got me thinking. Perhaps my inconsistency on track stems from a lack of proper practice, and that I tend to push the car more than it is supposed to. So Iā€™ve put together a bit of a training program for myself.

Training Programs per Track Est Time (minutes)
1. Circuit Drive 1.1 Driving line focus 10
1.2 Identify braking Zones 10
1.3 Identify turn in 4
1.4 Identify turn out 4
1.5 Find track markers 1
1.6 Overtaking points spotting 1
2. Corner Mastery 2.1 Late and Early Braking Zones 10
2.2 Apex focus 15
2.3 Speed in and out 15
3. Qualifying Pace 3.1 Warmup lap 5
3.2 Fast Lap 5
4. Race Pace 4.1 Long Runs 20
4.2 Fuel Saving 10
4.3 Tire Management 10

This is what I am going to follow when practicing for a new track, or a new car when I finally get up to IMSA. I tried this on Watkins Glen last night in the Kia and made notes on all my issues in each corner. I would spend some time watching the replays back and identifying where I am making certain mistakes, and try to take note of them.

Here is the notes from last night:

Track Turns Notes
Watkins Glen - Boot Turn 1 Brake at 300, take inside curb on yellow line, 2nd gear blip to lots of exit curb
Turn 2 4th first in turn, keep in 4th until end to 5th, full throttle
Turn 3 Late apex, feather throttle in 5th
Turn 4 Flat out 5th until end straight into 6th
Turn 5 Brake at 400m board, down to 3rd, lots of inside curb on first part of chicane, off throttle rest of chicane, on throttle on apex of second part of chicane in 3rd
Turn 6 Keep in 3rd, correction on brake into smooth apex, keep understeer to minimum and donā€™t scrub off speed, let the car roll through the corner, on throttle at cage on right
Turn 7 Brake well before tarmac colour change, down to 3rd, keep on throttle a little bit, throttle out when you can see the cage straight ahead
Turn 8 Brake 200m, down to 3rd, let the car slow down on the hill, down to 2nd, look out for understeer on exit, on throttle at end of light patch
Turn 9 Hard brake from 200m, late apex into 2nd, on throttle when pointed to end of black bar on left
Turn 10 Brake when starting the hill, down to 2nd, inside of light patch on left, out on end of patch
Turn 11 Small brake at 200, down to 3rd, feather throttle through corner exit on end of black patch
Turn 12 3rd, brake at end of black bar on left, roll through corner, early on throttle

I started out doing 2:01 and high 2:00 times on the course. I did a review, identified my problems, and literally 2 laps later, my time tumbled down to 1:58. 2 seconds a lap from just one session like this. Plus I felt so much more confidence in where to drive and how to drive.

I thought Iā€™d share this if anyone is interested in doing something similar or giving pointers.
