The previous hardware challenge sparked the interest of many people procrastinating on the internet. So let us do it again.
The challenge is simple; put together a part list for a PC that should be capable of gaming at 4K resolution. The catch is that you need to try and keep it as cheap as possible. We want to see if it is possible to get 4K gaming possible for cheap prices.
Now this challenge is a bit more subjective than the previous one, but let’s see what comes out of it.
Also, there are a few rules that you have to build within:
Your PC must be comprised of new parts currently available in SA only.
You must put together a part list for an entire working box
You have to add at least 1 screen to your build, that has to be 4K capable.
1440p is not 4K…
If your PC would be able to run games at any frame rate that is playable that would be fine. It does not have to be a 4K@60FPS gaming rig.
I’m struggling to get a PC down to close to R20k. Each build I’ve tried ends up closer to R25k than R20k. Seems I need to do more digging to find better prices, or have a drastic rethink of the parts I’m putting together
ok so here we go, an intel build that scraping the ragged edges of 4k, it should give about 30FPS with most existing games , the CPU might run into a bit of bottle necking on more CPU intensive titles but only about 10 percent so should be able to keep the games going, sad that the ram will run slower than its default since the CPU bus wont support it, but with current ram pricing slower ram is not cheaper, going with the same TV as @DohcWP
