MEW video stream meetup

Thank you to everyone who watched the stream and hung out in the chat or on Discord.

Bright Memory turned out to be incredibly fun, even if the stream video quality last night was a bit of a mess. Not sure what caused the artifacting, but I’ll fire up OBS a bit earlier tonight to try and pick up any issues earlier and fix it.

Oh yes, I’ve scheduled another stream for tonight. Please let me know if there’s a conflict with something else happening on the forum.

I got my Mixer key yesterday and have set up Restream to connect to it as well. Let’s see what happens.

There also seems to be an issue where my audio from Discord is being routed to OBS via my microphone input. Tried a bunch of stuff last night to fix it, but either Windows or my headphones don’t want to play ball. I’ll try to isolate my headphones tonight to see if they are what is causing the problem.

In the meantime I’ve made it so that Discord doesn’t route its audio to the Desktop Audio device. That should fix the slight echo from the previous streams.

Since the current GameClub title is Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, I thought it would be cool to continue my playthrough of that tonight.

Unless there is something else y’all wanted to check out? Let me know.

Senua is good, otherwise play what you feel like, what is fun for you… even Warframe  See everyone there at 8.

The stream is live on Twitch and Mixer. Sorry about YouTube, folks… Looks like there’s an issue between Restream and YouTube tonight.

I was also getting the video freezes on Mixer, but twitch was fine. Both 1080p

I’m still having issues with Twitch no matter what I set the quality to, same with other streams I randomly tried.

Mixer is a lot better but the video freezes and even goes away completely sometimes. The sound seems to be fine consistently. Same thing happens with other streams as well.

It could obviously be my connection but I have a 100/100 fibre line and Youtube streaming seems to always work fine.

Much better visually for me than last night. Mixer FTL definitely impacted things though - freezes were only there when I had it turned on as a viewer. Same with the lost audio at the end.

Screen capped a minute early on in case you didn’t have VOD enabled:

Thank you for the report! It’s very valuable as I’m still trying to figure out what works. I’ll be disabling FTL streaming to Restream tomorrow night to see if that changes anything.

If all else fails, I’ll reduce the quality on my side in case it’s some weird issue relating to system load.

Excellent! Thank you

Came in at the end on twitch. Stream was solid for me at 720p60. Sound was fine.

Weekend streaming schedule?

What’s a good time to stream/meet up over weekends?

I think streaming from 20h00 to 21h00 on weeknights seems to be working. It gives everyone a chance to have dinner and it’s not too late for people who have to go to work in the morning (like me).

But weekends are a lot less structured than weekdays. So is there a specific time that works for you? Or a specific time that doesn’t work for you?

Stream video quality

I’ve been reviewing the footage from last night and it looks like there was still some graphical artifacting on Mixer. On Twitch there is a small amount of artifacting, but generally the graphical glitching seems to take the form of small hitches that aren’t too distracting.

However, the first night I streamed Hellblade to Twitch there are almost no graphical problems in the VOD. So something I did between the 11th and the 15th broke something.

There are a few things I changed:

  1. Streaming via Restream
  2. Using FTL to stream to Mixer via Restream (I have not tested normal RTMP yet)
  3. Installing Voicemeeter Banana to isolate Discord comms from game audio
  4. Adding an animated GIF to OBS for my stream background

I’ll isolate these one by one, starting with number 2 in the next stream.

That’s a handy feature!

I have used voicemeeter before and it works pretty well! But I saved up for a GoXLR and loving it!

For me the 8pm is good. It’s late enough to eat and get stuff done but early enough that it doesn’t run too late so you can still do some things after, even on the weekend. But whatever time you prefer.

Cool! I’ll schedule a stream for 8pm tonight.

I might stream multiple sessions on weekends in future.

Any requests for a game to stream or topic to discuss? I am happy to continue with Hellblade, but if you want to take a look at one of the proposed GameClub games on-stream before casting your vote, we can do that too.

Sorry for the wait everyone. Fixed the YouTube problem (hopefully!). Live on all three platforms now.

After much troubleshooting last night, I ran into unsolvable issues with Restream. My bitrate just died during the stream and it caused major buffering and stuttering on the video.

Switching to a local Twitch ingest server (twitch.hyperlayer.co.za) seemed to fix the issue.

I’m tempted to try Mixer again tonight, but at least with Twitch I can bounce the stream up and down until I get transcode active for everyone. That’s not possible on Mixer 'til I’m famous.

So, for now, I think I’ll stick to Twitch. If Twitch continues to give problems even while using the local ingest server and with transcode enabled, I’ll look at switching to Mixer or YouTube

I’ve downloaded Kingdom Come: Deliverance and Rebel Galaxy, so I thought we’d give some of the potential games for GameClub 13 a look.

Other than the technical difficulties, which platform would you choose and why?

If I can’t have all three, and disregarding technical considerations, I’d prefer to use Twitch because I think that’s where most of the viewers seem to go when they are looking for something to watch.

The stream is live and transcode is(finally!) working

A little late to this topic. @SIGSTART if i could ask, how have you setup everything? I’ve recently fiddled with this, and setup recording various configurations, but they all seem to have their downsides. Are you using one PC to stream and encode on? Or maybe gaming pc + streaming pc? Which niche hardware are you using, like cameras or specialised capture gadgets?
