Mortal Shell

Calling all Soulsike fans. Mortal Shell drops today. It costs only $13 on EGS and should unlock around 14:00. Not sure about console pricing and release time but according to a reddit post it will cost $30 across all platforms which means we scored with regional EGS pricing.

The game has been getting some decent reviews although it does a have a few lower scores as well, but nothing below 6/10. Apparently a playthrough will take you somewhere between 12-15 hours which is perfect for those of us with massive backlogs or for people who do not have a lot of time for gaming but still want a game like this.

I pre-purchased my copy last night after work and unfortunately I start working at 14:00 so I’ll probably only start playing tomorrow morning. I really enjoyed my time with the open beta so I can’t wait to get stuck into the full game.

Who else is taking the plunge?

I got to say that this looks like my kind of game. But man, I can’t buy anymore games. I still have to play Jedi Fallen Order and Sekiro. It’s so cheap though! Oh noes.

Exactly man. It’s only $13 and at 12-15 hours in length it’s about $1 for every hour of gameplay. That’s some good value for money. Do it.

Really enjoying the game so far. As always the normal enemies are not a problem but I struggle with bosses/ mini-bosses. I’ve at least unlocked all 4 shells now and after running around in circles for what felt like forever I found a new area.

I’ve played about 4 hours now and I’m really liking this game. The atmosphere is really, really awesome. The game looks and runs really well and it’s hard to think only 15 people worked on it. It gets bonus points for allowing me to choose PS4 button prompts from the menu.

The combat is really solid. The harden system is a breath of fresh air for the genre and once you get to grips with it it flows really well into your attack pattern. Still struggling a bit with parry timing but that has never been something I’m good at.

I have found all four shells and I’ve also settled on one to focus on in terms of unlocking abilities. I’m going for the Scholar as he focuses on resolve which is used for weapon skills and probably the closest thing to magic in the game. Definitely want to work on the Acolyte as well but he has pretty low health (and high stamina) so he seems to be more advanced.

I have only found two of the four weapons so far. The sword you start with and the great sword. The great sword has some cool combos and weapon skills but the attacks are very slow and eat stamina. For now I’ll stick with the normal sword until I get a bit better at the game.

I’ve fought two mini bosses and one boss so far. The one mini boss is very similar to the boss I fought but doesn’t have as many moves in his arsenal and the other one is similar to a “normal” enemy but with more health.

First impressions are great though. It is clear that this game does not have the scope of a AAA souls game but it makes up for it with atmosphere and design. My only gripes so far is the save / checkpoint system and the fact that healing items are a bit on the slow side.

Looking forward to playing more tomorrow afternoon and Friday when I’m off.

Nice, enjoy. It really looks great and hope to get it on special soon.

Just finished it. It took me almost exactly 17 hours. Would have been longer if I hadn’t resorted to using a trainer for some parts :stuck_out_tongue:

All in all it was a great game and a hell of debut for Cold Symmetry, can’t wait to see what they do next. While not the longest game with the most content what is here is of the highest quality. If you are a soulslike fan you owe it to yourself to at least give this a try. Amazing atmosphere and great combat.
