So I came home last night to find that my dear old lovely (read fucking) cats have chewed my headset cable to pieces. I only recently got a pc again, so I really have no knowledge of headsets that are not purely music related.
My absolute budget will be around R2k.
I have been looking at the new Astor a10’s. They don’t seem too expensive and from the few reviews I have watched they look the be quite decent.
I also don’t know if its better to stick to stereo or to try something like 5.1 or 7.1. I play a lot of MP games (Mostly Overwatch and PUBG) so I always wondered if something like 5.1/7.1 would be better for those type of games or if its still just gimmicks in the end.
I really enjoy my 5.1 Turtle Beach z6a’s that my sister bought me from Hong Kong. But if I’m honest, with the software tech available (HRTF in CSGO etc) stereo really is “good enough” when it comes to gaming.
I’m quite partial to the Steelseries Siberia V2’s. I think you can’t go wrong with ANY headset if your budget is 2k. As long as you know you aren’t overpaying, I reckon they’re all solid at that pricepoint.
7.1 and 5.1 are gimmicks. even with the Tiamats which is true 7.1.
Most headsets are synthetic 7.1 .
All you need with Headsets are stereo, especially with FPS gaming
I’ve had my Tiamats for about 2 years and they are literally falling apart. I’m not impressed at all. My next headset will probably be something decent from Senheiser or someplace. I’m done with gaming headsets.
If I had to buy a headset right now, I’d go with a Steelseries Arctis (there are three types). Earlier in the year when I bought my Logitech headset I was looking everywhere for the Arctis headsets and they weren’t available in South Africa. They are now.
And they look and sound yummy. I wanted the Arctis 5.
I bought a Hyper X Cloud 2 a few months ago , link
Super comfy , Mic works great (and is removable), and you can chose between usb or rca , the usb give you virtual 7.1 which also seems to work well. Very happy with the headset all round
